Slow fall . . . with wings?

I'm playing a monk10/dragon descendant2. My DM has set up some plot-based stipulations for continuing in the DD class, so I've had to bounce back and forth between classes.

My question is . . . if a monk has wings, would he really continue training himself in the art of slow fall? Every time I take another level in monk that increases my slow fall height, I feel so . . . legalistic.

Anyone have any thoughts on alternates class abilities?

P.S. My DM says that I'm whiny, that slow fall is a poor class feature anyway, and that I need counseling. He's probably right. :-)

your DM is right :p
i'd say no replacement ability
if taking a new class makes your old classes abilities obsolete, dont take the new class, or dont complain

I don't remember exactly, but lately we had a nice example where a monk with Slow Fall would have survived and a flier would have died... ray of enfeeblement perhaps on an armored combatant?

Nah, I think it was something else.

One of the stipulations on the wings is that if the character is unconscious, paralyzed, or stunned, the wings lock into a circling, descending orbit to the ground. THAT'S why slow fall is useless to a winged dragon descendant with slow fall.

Well, if you fall down a 5X5ft shaft, you won't have room to use your wings, but should have plenty of surface against which to slow fall.

So there you go.

Among the true dragons, silver dragons get feather fall as a spell-like ability at the juvenile age category, so I wouldn't feel entirely legalistic about it.

Note that the ability could still be useful to a flyer. Falling does not use any of your movement, and flyers are technically allowed to freefall if desired. You could theoretically do stunts like: move, attack, then fall (as a free action).

That could be pretty effective given the right situation, but you have to be within arms reach of a wall to use slow fall.
