Slow fall . . . with wings?

you have to be within arms reach of a wall to use slow fall.
A DM might just forego that stipulation if the monk had wings.

Interestingly, this ability was worded differently in 3.0 (appearing to allow for reducing damage without requiring a wall nearby). I can see why they made it more clear in 3.5.

I'm playing a character at the moment who will eventually go dragon disciple and develop wings. The DM seems to be under the impression that DD is a vastly overpowered prestige class, and has indicated when the time comes he may not give me the ability to fly. I plan on petitioning essentially for a glide ability that would function like slow fall without a wall nearby if this happens.

I'm not that worried about it, though, because I think when the time comes, he'll see it's not that great a class anyway.

Do you spend much time falling down narrow shafts that won't allow you to spread your wings? How often did you use "Slow Fall" during the past levels? As a DM, i would make the same call yours made. As a player, i too would try to scam for a new kewl ability to replace it.

It's a good class for a fighter-type, but a straight fighter or straight wizard can often be just as powerful (or more so, in their own areas).

By the time you reach 14th level, most of your party will likely already be flying during combats.

Hence why I'm not really worried about the possibility. I think by the time the decision has to be made, it'll be obvious that the class isn't ridiculous. I've also pointed out to him that when I grow wings, I'll essentially have to buy all new armor, which is pretty expensive!
