Sneak Attacking with Heavy Blades?

I'm sure someone must've asked this by now, but is it possible to sneak attack someone with, say, a Longsword? What about Magic Missile?

Provided you meet the requirement of also wielding a light blade/crossbow/sling, of course.

As a side-question, does anyone know of a handy guide to making an Eladrin Wizard, multiclassed into Rogue? Or anything in that general category?

Thanks!

You can not sneak attack with a long sword or ANY heavy blade. If you are wielding the dagger, the attack is made with the dagger. Holding it in your off hand while attacking with your primary is NOT wielding it.

Sorry, but looking for loopholes in these rules really gets my goat.

I figured that was the case, but I only first opened the book about an hour ago and don't have much of a feel for what is and is not intended yet. Figured it was worth asking.

Anyway, any idea where I could find any informative threads on such builds?

There's lots of info on power builds over on WotC's forums. BTW, I don't mean to come off as rude. I have just had to deal with players that try to manipulate the rules into things that they aren't meant to be.

Personally I tend to not optimize my character. Most classes and races have only ONE chance at being optimized, once all of the superfluous options are carved away, and I just don't like to be railroaded.

I guess that's one thing I miss about 1 and 2e. Damn I feel old.

I know how you feel. *is old too*

I tried looking at WotC's forums, and it worked fine, but now I can't see anything there. It just keeps asking me to log in over and over, no matter what page I try to look at. I tried deleting cookies, turning them on and off and so forth, but nothing seems to work. Not even a direct link to the page I was looking at. :s

Planning to introduce rogue variants for y game that can sneak attack with everything. Of course, they'll loose out in other ways. But now we're getting into house rule territory.

Here's what I get every time after I log in:

skywyze, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

  1. You are attempting to use a feature that employs the search engine. Search is currently disabled on the forums
  2. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
  3. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

As far as I know, I haven't done anything wrong. I haven't even looked at those forums for months and they DID work a few hours ago, but I didn't post anything. Are they having technical trouble or something?

If you go to the main forum page, you'll see that none of their forums are up. Something went wrong with the maintence performed earlier.

Ahhh, that explains it. I'll check out those guides again when it comes back online. At any rate, I think I got an answer to all my questions. Thanks. :)

Why does this remind me of, "The Gamers?"

"You Back-stab with a ballista?"

"The rules don't say you can't."

It was, truly, an epic Dork moment.
