I'll be honest - I think most countdown timers end in disappointing announcements, and I think this one is no different. I'm only vaguely aware of "Dragon Age" and not at all sure why I'd want another western fantasy RPG when I have several flavors of D&D, WFRP2e, Earthdawn, etc.

I'm curious what everyone else's thoughts were. Was this countdown timer worth it?

(non-serious poll forthcoming, for the laughs.)

I voted "simply not interested, end of story," but I could be convinced otherwise if someone could explain to me what there is about Dragon Age that should appeal to me. I skimmed their site, but the computer I'm on at the moment doesn't much like the flash heavy bioware page, and other than "rpg that cares about backstories" and "bioware made a game so its probably decent" I couldn't figure out the draw.

I sort of wish there was an option for 'Don't know anything about the game, so I'll wait and see' or something to that effect.

Now, if I knew anything about Dragon Age, my answer might be different, but while I'm curious as to why Green Ronin thinks this is a big deal, I'm not really interested or disinterested since I don't know enough about the game to turn me on or off of it.

Now what there should be somewhere is a thread: Tell me why Dragon Age is so cool that we should be excited about the pen n paper version. Unless, of course, there is one already.

I picked "Uninterested and disappointed" since my main reaction is "What in the Sam Hill is Dragon Age!?"

Countdown timers should be for things which I've actually heard of.

I wouldn't necessarily go that far, but I think that it should at least be something for which there's an existing demand. I just don't think very many people were thinking to themselves, "You know what I wish were a Pen & Paper RPG? Dragon Age. Yeah, that would be really cool!" So it's bound to disappoint, I guess.

Now, with that said, I wish GR all the luck in the world with this. They're talented game designers, and will undoubtedly make a good product. It's just not one I think many people care about, as of yet - especially as its own RPG, as opposed to an OGL, True20, or GSL setting.

I'm only vaguely aware of what you were talking about, and it took me a minute to figure out what you meant by a western fantasy RPG.

That made me think of something like Deadlands, but more swords & sorcery... Cowboys & Dragons. That would be fun...

My reaction to this is that I'm excited. I'm a huge Bioware fan, so I'm very interested to see where this goes. When 4E launched, there was a great deal of speculation that it was designed as a tabletop MMORPG. I think it largely fails in this area, and I'm very interested to see what a game actually designed along those lines looks like.

I also think that Bioware is able to tell some unique fantastic stories, so I want to see what Green Ronin will do with it. Let's see where it goes.

At the same time, a countdown timer? A bit much.

This is probably the first countdown timer I was interested in (vaguely)...only because it was the first I ever knew of before the fact, as it were.

Anyway, announcing a game based on IP that isn't already released and scorching up the world is kind of...I don't know...odd, somehow?

I pay some attention to games coming out, and Dragon Age was not on my radar. That's not necessarily a bad sign (I've missed other big releases before, but not many), but a tie-in RPG seems like a small thing when the IP it's based on isn't even out yet. I just would have suspected something that not only has buzz around it, but also HISTORY.

On the flip side of that, GR is a great company, so I hope they kick some butt with this. I've got my fantasy game(s) of choice, so I'm all set, thanks.

Great news, IMO. Dragon Age is shaping up to be a great game (and I spend much more time slotting bad guys using a mouse and KB than a d20- no NOT MMOs ***SPIT***). And any thing that is big outside TTRPG and gets a TTRPG may help to bring in more players.

Probably won't use it myself but good news. In the month or so after it's release there will be many DA gamers than TTRPGers...spread the love.
