So, are we still going to be doing this when we're 70?

28, going on 600. As someone once said on these boards, I'll be playing till they pry my dice from my cold dead hands. And longer, if those darn clerics are right about the afterlife.

You just... seemed young. That's all. I just got that funny little idea into my head that I was older than you. Y'know. When you're actually twice my age.
Age can be a state of mind. I've known some "very young" senior citizens and some "very old" teenagers. Personally, I'm also 40, but my children often say that I am a big kid, which I am very proud of.

And in answer to the original question. HELL YES!! My gaming group jokes about us eventually all being placed in the same nursing home. We've just completed 21 years and plan to go for at least 21 more.

14 now, been gaming since I was 10. I'll probably keep gaming untill . . . hell, Idunno. Probably until I'm around 45-55, then I'll be processed into micronutrient packages by The Humanity Preservation Recycling Corp.

I'll be playing for the rest of my life. If I can't find players or a game in the real world, then I'll play online.

And you know, I don't think our experience of old age will be like it is for people who are old now. For one thing, most of us have had better nutrition throughout our lives, so we may not be as likely to become senile, or physically frail. And we will all have the internet to keep our minds spry. (No way would I ever move into a retirement home that doesn't have a high speed connection!)

Any kind of passtime that uses your mind keeps you sharp. So it's all good

And if they won't let me play, I'll hit 'em with my cane!

This has been a really nice read...

*snip* Any kind of passtime that uses your mind keeps you sharp...

Ok, Buttercup, you've convinced me. I have been questioning my involvement in RPG's since I turned 40 late last summer... Feelings of sheepish embarrassment, asking myself "when are you going to grow up?", and all that rot...

If gaming is going to help keep my mind sharp into old age, then I'm sticking with it! :D

*looking at self in a mirror* My body by 70? Well, that is another question...

Obligatory Simpsons quote:

Grandpa: That's the activity room. We're not allowed in there.
That's the library. Not allowed in there either. And
don't even think about going into the game room.

Burns: Egad, man! How are we supposed to pass the time?

Grandpa: Best bet is to stake yourself out a good spot at the
staring window.

I enjoy Bridge, but I would love to see all of the Bridge clubs converted to RPGs! Don't think old people game? Go volunteer at a retirement community - they play Bridge, Dominoes, Canasta, a lot of different games.

One thing elderly people are unwilling to do for the most part is learn a new game with complicated rules. This generation will already know the rules. So, I can definitely see many in this generation playing RPGs as they go into their golden years - we're already seeing it with war board games and some military miniatures.

Although it would be cool to game well into ones retirement years, I see a few problems, one is serious the other is not, and I will let you sort out which is which:

1) Senility - As people get older, they forget things, tend to misplace things, get bad eyesight and hearing.

2) New religion - By 2036 the world will be dominated by the Anti Free Thought Movement, a religion sprung up after a certain hugely populated Asian country invaded the rest of the world in 2032, thus role playing will not be allowed and if the government spycams see you rolling a dice or catch you talking like a rennaissance priest you will be shot.
