I agree.

WotC definitely showed us how much they "get it" with the digital magazine launch. I expect that they will again show us how much they "get it" with 4e.

For years, the best 3rd Ed stuff was produced by 3rd parties. This comes as no surprise whatsoever.

RC

Huh. The best 3rd edition stuff I've been buying has mostly been produced by WotC. And I found the Ecology of the Death Knight more interesting than the last few ecologies put out under Paizo.

Looks to me like Wizards gets it just fine.

Nice colours.

See, I was paying for something, and WotC took it away from me. They took it away from me so that they could bring me this. This sucks.

That ought to be pretty clear.

Thank you for your comment about my colours, though, in retrospect, I was totally ripping-off Gryffindor House.

The gripe about Wizards killing Paizo's magazine is legitimate, though you certainly put it in rather personal terms, but I don't believe that real judgement can be passed until after these publications move past the "we're just putting Design & Development and Web Enhancements under a different tab" phase.

This comment and others like it (not to single you out) baffle me. This is the big presentation that is suppose to be hooking people. Out of the box you're suppose to have an eye-catching and interesting preview that will make people want to buy into the full product. You'e showing us why it was such a good idea to get rid of the print mags and why we should be thrilled at an in-house, online mag. Dragon magazine, so far IMHO, has failed to do this.

It's like a story, you have to hook the reader with the first or second paragraph...not five pages into it and I just don't see Dragon as anything but web-enhancements and design columns for 4e, Stuff that should be free anyway. After all the hype of "we know this will be so great and so much better than the print mag...but we can't share it with you." Now you can show us and to sum it up, this issue so far has been a great dissapointment to me.

Side Note: I'm starting to wonder if WotC is trying to do too much to too many things at the same time. Just a thought.

Considering that the actual product is 8 months away, what we have seen and received has been pretty good, especially for free. Think about it, there is no actual product yet (no 4e) So they can't possibely give you the material that you were getting, they can only give you what legally they can right now. And trust me, everything, blog and supposed spur of the moment comment is going through Hasbro Legal.

I say lets not cry over spilled milk. My feelings about 4e would be like the stock market if i assessed it from what I'm hearing. Soem things i hear are great (less rolling, more rpgin) some give me a wtf (how the heck does this online board work).

Ihardly think that wotc has their hands full, its not like its one guy running the ship. It's a pretty expansive team.

You know this is funny I was just reading the ecology of the Kraken in issue 334...now they presented the knowledge from different DC checks, History, Physiology & Society, refrences (inside & outside of D&D for the monster), a new god based on the kraken, a cult based around a kraken and tips for fighting a kraken. I'm sorry but I just don't see the article about the Death Knight approaching this quality or quantity. IMHO word count=/= quantity for actual use.

No the actual product is not 8 months away...it started this month. So because it's free It's okay to be subpar( I could almost get behind this line of thinking... if I still had the choice of purchasing Dragon & Dungeon from Paizo). This is the replacement for those magazines, do they end 8 months from now? Or were they finished in September?

Edit: And let me note the Kraken article I refrenced above had the same mechanical information that the Deathknight ecoogy does...knowledge checks. Everything else was fluff.

Dungeon and Dragon magazine are supplements for 4e. 4e does not come out until May, that is eight month's away. 4e is not complete and thus the Dungeon and Dragon that is being released can not be complete.

It amazes me how so many people think that wotc is a chicken running around with its head cut off. If anything they are a very timeline oriented place. The material they are going to put online has already been outlined on a schedule. They are going for a slow build up so not to
provide too much material before launch and to continue anticipation. How in the world can you complain about anything free.

It's not meant to be the old dungeon/dragon. Its not even the same price.
