That Dragons of Eberron "article" that is just a listing of dragon hordes, that is, at best, a web enhancement. That article is pretty lame.

Still waiting to be wowed.

I'd like to see the poll in a years time...

Or really after the first Article Series has a few Articles posted...

After say we have 6 Ecology Articles to look at. And then the true Utility of Dragon in this format will be seen... When if you want an Ecology book you don't have to hope WOTC or PAIZO feels it would be worth it to print one.

All you have to do is take the PDFs and put them in a folder. Print them all out and bind them if you want. Now you have a Monster Ecology book that updates anytime you want it to. The same is true for everything... The Demonomicon stuff, new spells, new feats, rules, classes... Anything.

I just photocopied my magzine to create the same things. I guess it's more convenient, but I don't see this as something that couldn't be done with the print mags.

Too much work for me.

I'd have to take them all somewhere, photocopy them, then put them together.

This way, I can sometime down the line say, hey you know what? I really think I might use these ecology articles... Bam... Printed and bound. I didn't have to either have the forethought to constantly copy them, or lug a bunch of magazines somewhere to photocopy them.

So, it's not about how well the article was written...but whether you personally would use the monster.
Uh... yes, that's kind of the entire point of buying supplemental materials -- to supplement your game.

This sounds a bit like the people that cried "I'll never switch to 4E because I've still got tons of 3.5 books I haven't used!" Why the crap are you buying rulebooks that you're not using?

Way to quote me out of context...the rest of my post elaborates more on that statement.

Well, I haven't used all the gaming stuff I own, but gaming is just one of many things that I enjoy doing with my time. It is a hobby that I partake in once (occasionally twice) a week for about 4hrs. Do I plan on using the stuff...certainly, but that doesn't mean I have had the opportunity to use everything I own at this moment, especially at the rate WotC publishes books.

The ecology in Dragon about the Kraken actually made me want to run an adventure based off of it, something that's harder to do with an uncommon monster than a monster everyone likes or is common. The Deathknight article didn't make me want to run a Deathknight adventure after reading it, IMHO it was pretty dry. I'm not saying it was a horrible article...just that I wouldn't pay for it or the Dragon Hoards & Yuan-ti web enhancement Dragon articles.

Its too much work to photocpy them, but you'll have a web article printed out and bound?

Uhm yeah, that makes alot of sense.

Are you serious?

With a web document I click print this, then hit it with a three hole punch.

Even if I wanted it more "professionally bound" I click print this select a few options and a few days later it comes to my doorstep.

Photocopying means I have to find all th mags with the needed articles, take the stack of magazines to a photocopier, line up each page, hit copy, get everything together, drive home, hit it with a hole punch. Put all my magazines away.

Thats WAY more work then simply hitting print and then hole punching.

The big difference here is WotC is competing with something out the gate that was serving it's fan base and they chose to take that away for what was promoted as a better model. Show don't tell is all I can say about that, the time for hype is over, now that your showing your hand it's not impressive.
Actually wotc owned the original bakery, thus the final product of the cake came from them. The bakers from that original bakery still hve another shop that you are free to buy whatever you like from. I'm all for supporting Paizo until i can start up my dungeon/dragon subscriptions again.

You have an alternative, Paizo has a great new line starting up, same writers, same freelancers same material. Trust me I've had dinner with these guys and have seen some previews, it's all good stuff.

The material will be the same and even more than it once was. Yes it no longer sits in your bookshelf, but let me share with you some other things that have changed in the last 30 years.

1. Diesel fuel is no longer fashionable
2. Black and white tvs aren't made anymore
3. A little invention called the computer took off
4. There's no beta or vhs anymore, we record on these little chips
5. Sega, no longer in the video game hardware business
6. people rarely get film developed nowadays, its all on these neat little digital cameras.
7. Publications, magazines, newspapers are beginning to depend more on online revenue that can be better targeted, focused and current than printed ads.

This is a slow build, --- a marathon, not a sprint. WOTC is preparing for the biggest rpg launch in a decade, they don't have time to gather together material for a system on life support so that a few fanboys can relive old times. They're looking forward to the future, showing us previews and I like what i am seeing so far.

My new hp auto three hole punches. Way cheaper than a personal copy machine and less time consuming than scanning and reprinting. I swear, everytime i scanned something something would be left off.

I rarely used dungeon/dragon in game, especially when the pdf market took off. it became such a hassle for game prep to have to remember what book i saw something in, find the right article, find a matter of photo copying and then presenting it in game. If it was a cool color picture of a dragon i'll be darned if it made it to game because iwasn't paying 1 buck for a color copy for one session.
