So, how stupid do you have to be to be a githyanki?

(Not that most githyanki, with a racial -2 to Wis [and +2 LA], will make very good clerics in any case, but...)

I think they will manage healing spells.

And if that Lich Queen is as powerful as she sounds, and gets the devotion of her subjects, she might even grant spells to followers.

I see. You're talking about clerics without a deity (per PHB)? Yeah, going by the MM only, it appears you can make a case for those. Possibly even others, depending on your interpretation. (Not that most githyanki, with a racial -2 to Wis [and +2 LA], will make very good clerics in any case, but...)

No, they would just know that they don't have clerics, and that's where lion's share of magical healing is derived from.

Felon was refering to the MM when he made the above statement. My point was that, if a person just went by the core books, they would have no idea that Githyanki don't have clerics. In fact, I had no idea until it was pointed out here.

Well, the question in my mind is, how big does that egg get? There's no aging on the astral plane, so either githyanki are adults from day one, or they spend their pubescence elsewhere.

They don't age. And, according to 2e and the Incursion story-arc, they have incubators hidden on other planes where they have their broods.

I think the biggest source of githyanki healing would be slaves. The slaves can worship gods, after all, and githyanki would probably target low-level clerics to be kidnapped and bound to a life of endless healing.

Demiurge out.

Correct. Dungeon #100 (more specifically, Polyhedron #159) had the Ghustil PrC. This 10-level PrC doesn't have much to recommend it, except that it's very small spell list is almost all healing spells, of up to 6th level. The spells are cast spontaneously. Interestingly, because their spells are powered by Astral energies, their magic is considered neither arcane nor divine.

A far more sensible variation is that the ghustil actually *worship* the astral and thus the githyanki have access to some clerics but no gods. As they are very poor clerics (+2LA and -2wis) they are not much of a force in sociey. The more powerful clerics might know they are actually worshiping, rather than just manipulating the power of the plane. but this secret is kept from most githyanki.

What the race needs is peons who can heal a little bit, not powerful people who can also use some healing.

Oh and forget wands of CLW - wands of lesser vigor are far more useful.
