so im makeing my first spellcaster...

Gicko

First Post
a Cleric to be exact. and im haveing a little trouble.

so far i have 5 things for certen.

the Cleric will be a Bugbear,

he will worship the godess Pharasma

he will be SOMETHING neutral. not too sure what yet.

he will have the healing domain, and mainly focus on being a good healer.

he starts at level 3

now, to clerify a few things.

i have the pathfinder core rulebook,

i know the bugbears skill modifiers via the internet,

i have NOT rolled the abilitys of this charicter, or indeed done any work on him whatsoever, aside from in my head.

and i have nother made a spellcaster before. (i have a ranger, but she is only lvl 3, so no spells yet)

so. i need help with what spells he will have. im not sure what his 2nd domain will be. (options are death, knowledge, repose, and water. not includeing the healing wich i allready have)

so uhh... man i have no idea what questions to ask...

i thought at first that the spells in my deitys domains would be the only ones i know, but after finding spells in the "list of spells" wich are not in any domain, i realised this probibly isent the case. so i guess my question is this.

what spells would a Cleric of Pharasma have at level 3? is their any way i can determine what spells he would have on my own? as the book dosent seem to be helping.

and would it be a bad idea for a cleric of this god to take both the healing AND the death domains?

i really hope these questions make sence, and that you can help. if you need me to clerify anything else, just let me know.

Clerics don't have a spell book like Wizards. They have to prepare their spells each day, but they choose from every spell on the Cleric list (of the levels they can cast).

Just check the table on pg. 40. At third level he gets 2 first and 1 second level spells that he chooses from the entire list. Then he gets to choose one first and one second level spell from those in his domain(s). Don't like the spells he took? Choose different ones tomorrow!

*He'll also get to take additional spells if he has a high Wisdom score. The table for that is on pg. 17.

Hope this answered your questions - if not, post up again!

oh wow. they honestly get ALL the spells? thats just insane XD

but i guess it explains how a cleric gets spells like raise dead, wich arnt part of any domains. thanx for the help.

now i just need to figure what his 2nd domain should be. haveing healing/death would be pritty funny, but wouldent really fit his charicter. (wise old man/ elder of the tribe)

edit: accordering to the core rulebook, every two levels a cleric gets a stronger "chanel energy". however, according to this website:
http://pathfinderrpg.wikidot.com/cleric

a cleric gets an aditional domain power each two levels. wich one is correct?

edit2: so i just rolled my clerics hit dice for its hitpoints. (a D8)... is it normal for a level 3 cleric to have 11 hitpoints?

Right, first things first: That website you have there? Ignore everything on it, as it was for the Beta of the pathfinder rules, not the final release. Believe your book or the following websites:
Pathfinder SRD (Pathfinder_OGC)
Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Reference Document

The way that the domain spells work, as you might notice that some domain spells overlap with the cleric class spell list, is that you can memorize one of your two domain spells in your domain spell slot. You can then memorize 2+Bonus spells 1st level cleric spells and 1+Bonus 2nd level cleric spells.

The domain powers occur at different levels typically one from each domain for first level and a second one at sixth or eighth level from each of your domains

As for your second domain I would go Repose domain if you want the healer theme, Knowledge domain if you want the "Wise Old Man", or Water if you just want some additional attack and control ability

As for your Hit Points, it depends on your DM, but generally you take max hitpoints at level 1 and roll for following levels, but 11 is VERY LOW for a third level cleric (an average, rolling for all three levels, is 13.5; for a max level one it is 17) And all of these numbers are before adding three times your CON modifier, don't forget that

And also, where did you get the stats for the bugbear race? I did not see any breakdown for them as a race in the Bestiary

ahh ok thanx. though i did make my fighter, and some of my ranger useing that website. hopefully those two havent changed much.

dunno if i have anything to say bout this.

hrmm... guess ill need to flip a coin between repose and knowledge. as im not sure wich of those to pick XD

ok. guess ill reroll my 2nd and 3rd lvl hit dice then, and assume the 1st was a natural 8. got a 16. is that good? if i add 3x my con its 19

and wait. i add 3xCON? (my CON is +1 so that would be 3x1=3 right?) o.0 huh... wonder if i did that for my fighter and ranger. (fighter has 26 HP at lvl 3, ranger has 23)

And also, where did you get the stats for the bugbear race? I did not see any breakdown for them as a race in the Bestiary

got them from here
Bugbear :: d20srd.org

its 3.5, but i dbout they would have chainged it much in pathfinder.

note. i rolled his abilitys, they are:

Str: 13 +1
Dex: 11 +0
Con: 12 +1
Int: 14 +2
Wis: 18 +4
Cha: 12 +1

these are all after adding in both the bugbear mods, and the peneltys/bonuses of him being a 50 year old bugbear.

(see here for the age thing, its at the very bottum)
Bugbears

Bugbear racial ability modifiers have changed slightly from 3.5, actually. The "typical" bugbear listed in the Pathfinder Reference Document has Str 16, Dex 13, Con 13, Int 10, Wis 10, Cha 9. To get the racial stat modifiers, you subtract either 10 or 11 from each of those (depending if it's odd or even). So the bugbear racial modifiers are Str +6, Dex +2, Con +2, Cha -2. They only get Str +4 in 3.5.

At a quick glance, they don't seem to have changed much

Just saying 3x CON modifier simply because you add CON modifier times your HD, and since you are level 3, you have three HD, hence three times CON modifier.
And 16 at level 3 (not counting CON) is only 1 HP below average, so it isn't too bad

awsome. now i just need to think of a weapon for the old guy. i cant see him running up to pepole with a hammer and sheild, so im leaning more towards a thrown weapon like a javilen or spear. unasure of how i can make something like that without haveing him need to run up to were it landed to pick it up again though.
