So I've now watched the first four episodes of Farscape...

Anthony Simcoe needs to deal with a pink slip and a pinch of instant lemonade powder to the eyeballs, because good lord, he stinks. :D His inability to bend, slouch, or shrug doesn't bother me... it's the arms that hang useless at the sides like he's in a first year theater course at the community college. The arms twitch now and then, but mostly are just limp appendages that serve to hold a really turdly gun-sword now and then.

Okay, I feel better.

I've now watched episode 7 & 8, and my hate for D'argo lessens somewhat while my hate for Aeryn soars to new heights. Is she supposed to be attractive? I mean, she looks like Mialee, except MORE off-puttingly gaunt, cold, and gristled. I don't know if she picks up soon, but she's dead weight to me so far. Is she supposed to be engaging? She's hostile, gruff, and downright mean. I'm wondering why they didn't kill her off long ago, or at least jettison her. Ugh.

Still, Crichton and Zhaan are incredibly cool. I still get the feeling they miscast Crichton with some goodlooking muscled guy, but Zhaan's been perfectly cast. I think she's fantastic, and she commands my attention when onscreen.

Hey, does that Crayce (sp?) guy strike anyone else as really REALLY non-worrisome? Why does Crichton run from him? One is a tubelike five-foot hairy schlub, and one's an Atlas. How is Crayce scary? Ooh, watch out for the guy with the ponytail, he's angry and he snaps his subordinates' necks like all big bads!

The above, as usual, is entirely IMO.

Right. Now, take a roll of duct tape, and strap it around your chest from the lower end of your sternum up to and over your shoulders so that you cannot bend, slouch, or shrug. See how stiff you look? That's something like what Anthony Simcoe has to deal with.
Umbran makes a good point. He is really plastered into that body cast. He talked about it alot at the recent Farscape Con. But enough of that. I have decided to try it out on myself and I have to say that this duct tape is getting really itchy. Also, I probably shouldn't have been sitting down while doing it....

Well, I submit that the body cast is just not worth how distractingly sterile it makes him play on screen, if it's really the fault of the prosthetics. I'd rather believe the actors than some unnecessary makeup.

You'll see. Or not, of course. ;)

You'll see why they cast Browder later. Gotta remember he was a pilot and astronaut in training. They are usually pretty fit.

Crais, ah Crais. One of the best reasons to watch the show. And I'm sure you would run from someone who had an army at his command. Plus, Crais is VERY smart and cunning. All the characters get better as the eps continue. By the finale of season 1, most of your gripes should be gone... :)

I guess we will just have to agree to disagree on the D'argo thing. His mobility was never an issue for me. All good. :)

Hey, don't get me wrong, I like the actor and I like the character. I just sometimes feel like they're writing Crichton for a smaller, more squirrely kinda guy.

Also- he seems really mild-mannered. Nothing REALLY gets to him, except for the ponytailed schmuck half-his size chasing him around a labyrinth, where he does NOT command an army, by the way... :D

AH, that's just the one episode. :p Plus, John thinks Crais is totally nuts. Everyone is scared of a nut-job.

No, Officer Aeryn Sun is suppose to be an emotionless, thoroughly indoctrinated soldier of a fascist regime. She's not a nice person. They introduced the character that way because her storyline is all about her growth, her learning to be something other than a killing machine; her becoming more "human". Farscape isn't really so different from Star Trek, where it seems humanity's job is to fly around the galaxy redeeming alien species, making them more human, more good. Its just that Farscape a) is far more brutal and b) redemption takes longer, its not all resolved be the end of a 1 hour episode. Plus character backslide. Its a matter of taste, but watching characters really change over the course of a show keeps my attention.

Crais is scary becuase of his big old Command Carrier, his troops, and all those little Prowlers. He's also scary becuase when you think about it, he's a terrible Peacekeeper. He throws his commission away to avenge the death of a brother who, according to his own culture, he shouldn't have any special feeling for.

What's great about Crais/Aeryn is there similiarities. Crais starts off far more "human" than Aeryn, willing to defy his orders out of love for his brother, yet he's the Big Bad. And Aeryn's on the good guy team, but its takes her a long time to really begin to question her Peacekeeper training.

Keep watching. It gets so much better.
