So I've now watched the first four episodes of Farscape...

Well it definatly isn't for everybody, but then again I can say the same thing about a lot of shows that people out there love. I hate The Sopranos, It is crap on a stick but it sure has a strong and loyal following, I haven't cared for Buffy since the second season ended and that can be a hanging offense around here. Farscape sucked me in, the Aeryn/Crichton relationship is intriging, Dargo's past is intriging, The episode that gave Moya and Pilot's past story was very good, all in all it is a pretty good setting that a lot of work has gone into fleshing it out. My wife thinks it is the worst garbage she has ever seen, but then she likes Lifetime movies.

The first few shows are so so mostly introductions to the characters. They made a point that John is a very smart earthling but here is not a match for any of them. It takes him a while and then the show rocks!

I was trying to find out from people if the first four episodes could give me a good idea of what to expect from the series.

Well, as I thought I implied, the answer is mostly "No." The series grows and changes very quickly.

What you are seeing in the first few episodes is, in many ways, kind of like the formation of an adventuring party. A bunch of people who have little reason to trust each other, placed in a dangerous situation. For the moment, you only see the surfaces of each character, as none of them are ready to reveal their weaknesses, and it takes time to see their foibles in action.

As the series goes on, you will see more characterization, and all the characters grow. I think you'll find D'Argo and Aeryn growing on you (and no, that doesn't mean D'Argo is a fungus, that honor belongs to a different crewmember :) ).

Yeah the first season was slow, but the last half is where it picks up and the last four episodes of the season are what truly hooked me to the show.

The show gets really good once they introduce Chiana and give up some more information on D'Argo. That's, as most people have said, between half and two-thirds of the way through season one.

I think season one is when everyone is trying to find a dynamic and get used to the roles. Furthermore, I think the writers are testing how far they can push the actors to get the results they want. This really shows twoard the end of season two and all of seasons three and four, when you can tell that everyone is just comfortable.

The only bad part of Farscape, IMO, is their character introductions. I don't think I've really liked the introduction of any character on Farscape, from John straight through Noranti. Even the bad guys. Except for Braca, who's always sort of there and really grows into his part.

I ramble too much.

Dargo needs to die. I hate him. Every moment he's on screen is like getting a staplegun to the toenails. The makeup, the suit, the actor who doesn't know how to pose casually

What you're seeing there is not an actor who doesn't know how to pose casually, but someone in extremely constricting prosthetics who can't pose casually as a result. They fixed that later on in the first season. The interviews and commentaries are good for this info.

Dargo is a lot cooler than Worf. :D

I don't think he has prosthetics on his arms... at best, he was covered on the upper chest and shoulders, right? I don't buy that the prosthetics barred him from not standing there like a wallflower constantly.

Plus, can't argue with that he's cooler than Worf, as I hate both.

Hmmm, I never really noticed. He was always a cool character to me. :p Just wait until you get a little further in and those little things shouldn't bother you so much.... ;)

I was never a big Worf fan, either. D'argo is a much better and much more fun character. :)

Right. Now, take a roll of duct tape, and strap it around your chest from the lower end of your sternum up to and over your shoulders so that you cannot bend, slouch, or shrug. See how stiff you look? That's something like what Anthony Simcoe has to deal with.
