So sick of 2E fans bashing 3E

You are referring to the Green Day argument which states...

"Once it achieves popularity, THEN it sucks!'

(The corollary being that it didn't suck when it wasn't popular)

Weird. I thought that was the R.E.M. rule. Of which the corollary was, every new release after the one that you first bought was a sell-out.

Kinda relates to this... ;p

Fallacious argument.

REM always sucked.

:D

Holy crap... 3 pages... I figured this thread would go more or less untouched.

I have to clarify a bit. I'm not at all offended by having 3E bashed. I liked 2E and earlier versions, and I like 3E. I think I was more bothered by the small chunk of the conversation that I quoted in my first post... the "secret sources." I just can't stand people like that.

I was really frustrated, because, as much as I desired to defend the system I enjoy, it was tough to do so in the face of 3 people ho are not only disagreeing with me completely, but being obnoxious about it as well. I should have known better than to even argue... heck, after I stopped talking about it (as soon as someone in the room mentioned that Fay Wray died... :( ) they contnued to complain about 3E amongst themselves for a good half hour, and this was not a RPG based chat room.

I think, really, my main goal was to just give everyone that fun taste of my conversation with someone who clearly has all the inside information that none of the rest of us have... all while blowing off some steam.

Bah... stupid people are irritating.

That can't be right, because today I heard the same REM song twice. Once on the radio, which means nothing, but once on my CD player, which obviously means they're good.

Which is relevant to this topic: We love playing 3e, so it must be good. Someone else likes 2e, so it must be good too. "You suck because I like something else" is a stupid comment, and if someone said it to me I'd feel they were insulting themselves, not me.

Ah yes, I've known many music snobs in my day. They'll latch onto an obscure group or artist, and should that group or artist suddenly achieve mainstream popularity, they'll do one of two things:
  • Try to impress you by stating that they liked the band before they were popular.
  • Get angry and accuse the band of "selling out" (although more often than not this bitterness over the fact that they've lost their nonconformist status because their favorite band is now mainstream).
Of course, music snobs aren't the only people who do this. There are also movie snobs (who latch onto an obscure director), literary snobs (who latch onto an obscure author), RPG snobs (who latch onto an obscure RPG system), et cetera.

The scary part is going to be when the 3e players are in the same boat as the 2e players are now. :) Hopefully we will all be alot nicer to the whippersnappers....

.... why don't I ever learn?

I do not know.

As someone who has played since 1974 I can tell you that the "D&D Feel" has little to do with the ruleset and almost everything to do with the way in which we who gather around the table conduct ourselves.

It ain't the game, it's the players...
