My current campaign has a specific note about the culture - the PCs and NPCs don't know from "classes", so there is no name for the class, per se. Classes, as such, don't even exist inside the game world. They are a useful out-of-game notion for purposes of character progression, but nobody in the world knows that a "paladin" exists. There's just this guy who fights pretty well, and has some holy power.
That's kinda the point of this thread (on a meta level, you could say) - I wanted alternative "titles" for characters which weren't specific class names. It's amazing how meta-gamey players can be sometimes.
Once, I had this well, here: "... a warrior is rushing down the street, his chainmail clinking like mad as he dashes towards the gigantic centipede bursting out of the store at full tilt. His mouth is frothing with foam as he unsheaths his sword and screams a warcry, the symbol of Tempus shing brightly on his shield. He takes mighty swings at the centipede - once, twice, thrice! His sword digs in, spilling icor and blood over the street as his eyes shine red with rage."
Players: So.. he's a barbarian?
Me: I dunno, he's a frikkin(!) angry warrior rushing down the street, intent on killing the centipede
Players: but is he a barbarian? You said he was foaming at the mouth, and has red eyes and crap.
Me: Look guys, it doesn't matter. That's being a meta-gamer. He was an angry warrior - just take it as descriptive text, and leave it.
Players (muttering): I'm SURE he's a barb...

and so on. I dunno, just a fun thread with new names, and possible insiprations for DMs
Thanks for the replys thus far fols - the serious input has been great thus far, and the funny stuff has been, well funny. But it isn't really the point here - I intended this to be for alt names, not slang terms. Thansk
