Take your least favorite race
Add in your least favourite class
Mix with a little of your least favourite personality backgrounds and simmer
Add a splash of what you think are some of the worst spells or weapons
Sprinkle your usual dump stat with ASI's

You might be pleasantly surprised at the nice flavour.

Instead of attempting to fill a vacancy in one of the four major roles. Intentionally leave one of those roles open. Having character's with flaws is interesting, but so is having a party with a weakness. It forces everybody to try new approaches and figure out how to compensate.

Back in days of old a favorite summer run was wizard, sorcerer, thief and ckeric/thief multiclass.

Cleric kept out of heavy armor for speed and stealth so the whole party used very much commando, speed, sneak, run etc instead of standing toe-to-toe. When "head into maze of underground corridor" opportunities arose we usually passed unless we saw it as not a case where we would get pinned in.

It was a very fun and different campaign.

However, its not as easy to do with some other roles.
