soldier instead of warlord

 Good one!
As long as we get the point that people can't rename everything because they probably wish to discuss those things with other people, my work here is done.

Seriously, you can call it whatever you want in your game, but you know darn well you'll have to call it whatever WotC chooses when you discuss it here. Thus, their choice matters.

The thing I find odd about the name "Warlord" is that they decided to go with a term that has somewhat of a gender connotation, especially since they made a point of changing all the <foo>men into <foo>folk. I'm surprised they didn't go with something like "Warsovereign".

It has less gender connotation than "sorcerer," since the feminine form is "sorceress." Warlord is a word that has no gender connotation, because you don't call a female one a "warlady."

No, she's a "warrior princess."

hmmmm...

I don't get the hate for warlord. It seems absolutely neutral to me, so much so that it isn't even era specific. We had warlords in the dark ages, and we still have them in parts of the world today. Soldier, and many of the other names being tossed around, are less generic IMHO. They sound distinctively military to me... while a warlord may or may not have formal training. Of course we are assuming a lot about the class so far.

How about point man?

... well, yes, i write my master´s thesis about the Vietnam War, why did you ask? :D

Oh, and i like Warlord. It is definitely a name a class can aspire to "fill out" by doing mighty deeds.
