Some AoO feat suggestions....

I was thinking of building a character based around AoO....to that end, I realized that Combat Reflexes alone wouldn't be enough....So I wash thinking about a feat that gave 2 or 3 extra AoOs a round. What would be reasonable? Two or Three? The prerequisites would of course be like Dex 15+, Lightning Reflexes, Combat Reflexes, Base Ref +5.....

Also, what about a feat that let you trade two AoOs for ONE regular attack? The amount of extra attacks gained from this can never exceed your attacks from BAB....Not sure what the prereqs on that would be though.....

And what about the opposite? You can give up one regular attack (or maybe two) two get one more AoO? Some input would be nice.....

Improved Combat Reflexes [General, Fighter]
You can make really quite a lot of AoOs each round.
Prereqs: Combat Reflexes, Dex 13+
Benefit: You may make up to 3 additional AoOs each round.
Special: You may take this Feat multiple times, and its effects stack.

Might be nice for a low-Dex Reach-based Fighter... can't see it being overpowering.

A while back, in the "Invasion of the Githyanki" issue, Dungeon had a chain of improved CR feats that let you take iterative attacks on your AoOs- for instance, Imp. CR let you take a second attack, Greater CR let you make three attacks (as one AoO), etc.

Woah! That looks frightening... I'd have to crunch some numbers, but that worries me in terms of power.

If use of it cost you your Psi Focus, though, no problem.

I'd probably not allow the transfer of AoO's for regular attacks, as someone else has to trigger an AoO for you to get an attack while your regular attacks you always get them.

I'd say pick up feats which increase the number of things which trigger attacks of opportunity or improve your ability to make attacks of opportunity: Complete Warrior: Karmic Strike (attack vs. people that hit you), Defensive Throw (trip attempt vs. dodge target missing you), Hold the Line (attack vs. charging foes); Complete Arcane: Mage Slayer (spellcasters can't cast defensively against you); Complete Adventurer: Deft Opportunist (+4 bonus on attack rolls on AoO).

Just as a rule variant, I'd allow a PC with iterative attacks but NOT Combat Reflexes to take a "ready AoOs" full-round action, which would act like a hybrid of Combat Reflexes and iterative attacks -- basically, a PC with three iterative attacks (BAB 11-15) would get up to three AoOs, the first one at full BAB, the second one at -5, and the third at -10.

Not great compared to the normal "ready attack" (single attack at full BAB) plus normal AoO (just one at full BAB), but could be nice for Hasted reach fighters, TWF guys and Monks.

My thought behind the trading AoOs for attacks is, I consider combat VERY dynamic. There is stuff going on ALL the time, and AoO are like you noticing something out of the corner of your eye to take advantage of....but if you trade them in like the mechanic I mentioned, it is like narrowing your focus so you won't notice those other moments and FIND more moments in the here and now....and for the reverse...instead of concentrating on finding them no, you wait and pay more attention around you to try to notice OTHER, maybe BETTER moments.

Improved Combat Refelxes...::SNAGGED:: I will be taking this...!

The I remember those feats, and I think you had to be weilding a duil-weapon....

Oh, and I think the feats worked as you could use more than one AoO for one instance, meaning moving out of one threated area into another you could use multiple AoOs for that one instance, not all the attacks only cost one AoO....
