Did classes like fighters and rogues need abilities to choose from, like clerics and wizards have? No, probably not.
But will it make a better game, and make those classes more fun to play? I think it will.
The problem with "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" is that it leads to stagnation, and it prevents designers from ever making things better.
"Good enough" isn't good enough, if there are ways to make it better.
Sure... Like I said, I can't comment on whether or not 4e will be fun or not, as I haven't seen it.
I'm just stating that this edition feels more like change, for the sake of change, rather then to fix issues that were causing problems...
The ideas, while neat, and possibly lots of fun, are more ideas that I see as optional rule books. They don't fix, they change... Which potentially opens up the game to a host of other issues...
Thats all I'm really saying...
