MAZOshi1987 Hi, So a druid can move his speed, now if said druid then Wildshapes does there movement reset to that of the beasts?
JeremyECrawford If your speed changes on your turn, subtract the distance you've moved from the new speed (see PH, 190). #DnD
JD2319 So it's a straight subtraction, not a percentage calc?
JeremyECrawford That's correct.
day_Knights If you can attack twice within an attack action, could you attack twice using your reaction upon taking the ready action?
JeremyECrawford The Extra Attack feature specifies that it works on your turn. It doesn't work on someone else's. #DnD

@imnotasnowflake if a wizard casts Animate Dead on the corpse of, for example, a giant, does it change the stats at all?
JeremyECrawford Animate dead works only on the corpse or bones of a Small or Medium humanoid. #DnD
DrawDiscard Could you cast Reduce on a Giant Skeleton, animate it and then drop Reduce?
JeremyECrawford Changing your size doesn't change your creature type. A little giant isn't a humanoid; it's a giant. #DnD
dan_Dillon_1 15 mrt. Vertaling weergeven So, Revivify isn't like a tiny resurrection, it restores life/animation to anything, even constructs?
JeremyECrawford Yes, any creature type.

@_Matafer Interactions in combat, can you drop something, and then draw something?
JeremyECrawford The intent is that you can drop something effortlessly. As DM, I'd let you drop something and draw something. #DnD
jprepo1 Another FB group question. Fighter dies from death tyrant, raised as zombie, killed, revivify w/in 1 min, does that work?
JeremyECrawford If you cast revivify on a zombie, the creature returns as a zombie. The spell doesn't change creature type. #DnD
erichughesSD Since Dash doubles your speed, does double Dash quadruple your original speed, or just x3?
JeremyECrawford The Dash action has no effect on your speed. It gives you extra movement equal to your speed. #DnD
leonardoraele That means Dash = +30 (if speed is 30), if you Dash twice, you gain +60 (x3 movement, not x4).
JeremyECrawford That's correct.

@_Joe_Raso to clarify - will magic missile bypass the illusory duplicates created by mirrorimage and strike the creatures of choice
JeremyECrawford Yes.
Berathus I've seen no consensus on the realness of mirage arcane in the community. Could I stand at the top of an illusory tower?
JeremyECrawford You can climb an illusory tree formed by mirage arcane. #DnD
Braxxis Does Eyes of the Rune Keeper work on magical runes?
&#8207 JeremyECrawford Eyes of the Rune Keeper lets you read any form of writing, including the linguistic meaning of a rune, if any. #DnD
ZerounTheQuick so does that mean they could read spell scrolls and cast with the normal DC for spell scroll castings?! #Munchkin
JeremyECrawford Nope.

CloudOfDaggers Does a wild magic sorcerer need to maintain concentration on spell effects created by a wild magic surge? (cc: JRHyne1976)
JeremyECrawford You don't need to concentrate on spell effects from the Wild Magic Surge table. See http://media.wizards.com/2015/downloads/dnd/PH_Errata_1.1.pdf …. #DnD

@GamingHippy If you had the ability to dash as a bonus/free action can you then also dash as a main action. Double dash in 1 turn?
JeremyECrawford Yes.
thePanda_King I have a question about DND 5e. If you use dimension door while falling, do you keep your momentum through the door?
JeremyECrawford There's no rule to govern such a situation. As DM, I subtract the distance teleported from the fall. #DnD
LeandriinhuT Does Heat Metal spell melts the metal? My players want to melt a prision cell down
JeremyECrawford The heat metal spell isn't meant to melt the metal it heats. #DnD
Herodragon33 Some of the items in the backgrounds and packs don't have a weight or value assigned to it, are there any official values?
JeremyECrawford Backgrounds give you some story-oriented odds and ends that intentionally have no official weights or values. #DnD

@Ceepo_77 Can you stack a Paladin smite spell with divine smite? As in, cast wrathful smite, hit, then use divine smite on same atk?
JeremyECrawford A paladin can use Divine Smite on the same weapon attack that benefits from a smite spell like wrathful smite. #DnD

JeremyECrawford Which part do you find unclear?
John_Wyatt_ does it mean 2 sizes larger OR 2 sizes smaller. Or 2 sizes larger, and anything smaller than that
JeremyECrawford You can move through a foe's space if it is at least 2 sizes larger or 2 sizes smaller than you. #DnD
JDjeffers while in wild shape form, what happens when a druid is drained to 0 STR by a shadow?
JeremyECrawford If a shadow reduces your Strength to 0, you're dead, no matter what form you're in. #DnD
CLydeHumphreyJr Necromancy Wizard "Grim Harvest" + Animate Dead -- this does/doesn't heal the wiz when the skeletons kill? (I'd assume not)
JeremyECrawford Animate dead is instantaneous. It creates undead, then ends. Those undead, not the spell, can deal damage. #DnD
Evbof_Birdsong Regard Levitate: if used on unwilling target, how often can they save? RAW says just once, but duration is 10 min.
JeremyECrawford The levitate spell lets an unwilling target make a single saving throw against it. #DnD

@zasabi7 is there a take 10 rule in 5e?
JeremyECrawford There is no take 10 rule. A passive check is similar (see page 175 in the Player's Handbook). #DnD
leonardoraele Excuse me, master. With two-weapon fighting, can I use both attacks (normal and bonus) to shove a creature?
JeremyECrawford In two-weapon fighting, you don't get the bonus attack unless the first attack was with a light melee weapon. #DnD
NoTMock Wait, I thought only the second weapon had to be light? Do both weapons need to be light to gain the bonus attack?
JeremyECrawford In two-weapon fighting, both weapons must be light, unless you have a feature like the Dual Wielder feat. #DnD

brandenwithanE School of Trans feature Shapechanger: does polymorph need to be prepared to use either w/o spell slot or later "normally"?
JeremyECrawford A transmuter must have polymorph prepared, as normal, to cast it, with or without the Shapechanger feature. #DnD
zarconistPreist Can a person willingly fail a saving throw to let my spell affect them?
JeremyECrawford No rule lets you opt to fail a save. As DM, I might allow it, assuming you aren't incapacitated or dominated. #DnD
Thenebulator Does Polearm Mastery's AoO provoke against unwilling approaching targets?
JeremyECrawford You don't provoke an opportunity attack if you're moved without the use of your movement, action, or reaction. #DnD
JamesJaemz Does Shove qualify you to use the bonus attack in Two Weapon Fighting or Martial Arts?
JeremyECrawford The shove and grapple options don't involve an attack with a weapon or an unarmed strike, so no. #DnD
Max_H_Petersen Can you take a unconscious target with you using dimension door?
JeremyECrawford Only a willing creature can travel with you via dimension door. You can't give consent when you're unconscious. #DnD
Exentrik137 Seems odd, what's the difference between an unconscious creature and an object? Just need to be small enough to be carried?
JeremyECrawford Think of it this way: a spell that requires a willing target is partially fueled by that person's will. #DnD
dancing_geek When you heal a #druid in beast shape, do you heal the beast's HP or the druids? #DnD
JeremyECrawford The beast regains the hit points when you a heal a druid in beast form. #DnD

@vypir So Awaken can be dispelled off a turtle, for example? Because the turtle is a jerk about being smart.
JeremyECrawford The effects of an instantaneous spell can't be dispelled (see PH, 203). #DnD

MAZOshi1987 Can an Earth elemental Grapple with a creature and then pull them underground and leave them there to die?
JeremyECrawford An earth elemental's Earth Glide is meant to apply to itself only. #DnD
JJRTracy So do you need a focus to cast spells with only verbal and somatic components?
JeremyECrawford The purpose of a spellcasting focus is to substitute for free material components. It's otherwise decoration. #DnD
Ryrok if that’s the case, why have material components at all?
JeremyECrawford Whether to use a material component or a spellcasting focus is often a question of how your spellcaster looks. #DnD
JamesonCoase If attuned to an Instrument of the Bards and cast Charm Person, does the target make its save with disadvantage?
JeremyECrawford Charm person doesn't benefit from an instrument of the bards, since the spell has no material component. #DnD
Phoenix_Rion How/when would Elemenal Affinity bonus apply in these 3 cases: 1. Melfs Min Meteors 2.Scorching Ray 3.Twinned FireBolt? thx
JeremyECrawford Elemental Affinity benefits one damage roll of a spell. (1. One meteor. 2. One ray. 3. One fire bolt.) #DnD
Mariutti82 by rules, expending a superiority die when you move, you get its result as a bonus to your AC untill you stop moving.
JeremyECrawford Evasive Footwork grants its AC bonus only during your current movement. #DnD

JeremyECrawford If you cast revivify on a zombie, the creature returns as a zombie. The spell doesn't change creature type. #DnD

I'd like to point out that a far more interesting tweet came of this from him. Per Crawford, RAW/RAI, revivify will bring ANY creature back at 1 hp, regardless of type, assuming the other requirements of the spell are met.

That means, Zombies can be raised, constructs can be raised, etc..., interesting implications.

Oh look, another fiddly rule distinction that penalizes monks!

if that’s the case, why have material components at all?
JeremyECrawford Whether to use a material component or a spellcasting focus is often a question of how your spellcaster looks. #DnD
But more often it's a question of whether your character runs afoul of the clunky hand rules or not. :p

@_Joe_Raso to clarify - will magic missile bypass the illusory duplicates created by mirrorimage and strike the creatures of choice
@JeremyECrawford Yes.

'interesting...yes very interesting,' DM cackles

---------------------
I would argue that the MM strikes the duplicate you chose (and disregards the random roll), furthering that, better use of MM is to target all duplicates and remove the defense entirely...
