D&D (2024) Motley Fool Prediction: New Dungeons & Dragons Edition Won't Help Hasbro Much

I'm not upset about what you said at all, I just think people go out of their way to look for issues, which isn't really necessary because WotC makes plenty of mistakes without looking for minor things like this. I didn't intend anything to be insulting, sorry if it came off that way.

I think the reasons behind why they stated that 5E was going to be evergreen is relevant. It's a phrase they last used, as far as I can remember, a decade ago long before they realized the game was going to be successful.

Look at the history of WotC D&D. The first 2.5 attempts at the game weren't exactly blockbuster successes that saw initial booms and then busted quickly. They had the some of the shortest lifespans of editions in the history of D&D. They hadn't figured out how to make the game worth maintaining for HASBRO execs and thought the only reason to release 5E was to maintain control over the IP for other ventures.

My point wasn’t to criticize D&D or WotC. My point about evergreen is exactly what you said, people will use a term like that to set an impossible standard for the game.

Has someone from Wizards or Hasbro actually described the game that way, and not in some flowery kind of way, but as a statement that they mean for the game to never change ever?

5e is evergreen. Good grief, a rules update after ten years that allows you to keep using most of the stuff you bought? Yeah that’s as evergreen as it gets.
evergreen means we are still playing a version of 5e in 50 years that has not seen much more significant changes in the next 40 than it sees with the 2024 books. People always drag out CoC as an example for it being possible…

I doubt that we will still be playing a version of 5e by 2050

I think at the point they said it, they thought it wouldn't change.

Exactly what evergreen means is open to debate though. From a business perspective Risk is an evergreen game but the game pieces and board have evolved throughout the years. So looking at it from that perspective, D&D might still qualify because (again, from a business POV) this isn't a major update.

Okay since you’re going to be rude…who cares? It’s irrelevant.

I didn’t. I’m giving my opinion. Chill out maybe.

And by the way, you responded to me first. If you don’t like what I have to say, you can not respond.

Mod Note:
It is unclear what you found rude or un-chill about the post. It seems pretty normal from here. To use your own point - if you didn't like what he had to say, you could have chosen to not respond, too. Or reported the post.

On a discussion board like this, you should expect folks will discuss your points, including expressing disagreement.

I guess Hasbro wants D&D the one franchise, one to include the rest, one franchise to rule them, one franchise to find them, one franchise to bring all the rest of IPs and in the darkess bind them. Ups! Sorry, wrong movie!

I mean Hasbro will want all its new IPs to can be included within D&D multiverse, for example a mash-up version of Pretty Cure Glitter Force like a domain of delight (Witchlight) in a urban zone with magitek style New Capenna. Or a mash-up "shonen" version of PJMask where characters are in a magitek city like New Capenna.

And other companies could want their own IPs could appear within D&D multiverse, for example Warner with a reimagination of Hanna-Barbera cartoons "Pirates of the Dark Waters" and "Wildfire".

Hasbro wants to sell D&D related-staff but it hasn't enough brand power yet.

Now Hasbro's main target is the digital market, and not only VTT but different types of videogames. (I wonder how would be Hero Quest in Fortnite: VTT).

Even in the worst case Hasbro is too valuabe to not merger or be acquired by a bigger company.

* How would be an isekai where the MC is a summoner with a "harem" of antropomorphic moe D&D monsters?

Sauron as the new CEO of Hasbro? Yep, I could see that happening. 😋

A D&D version of the Pirates of Dark Water would be interesting. :)

Shhh!!! We aren't supposed to talk about the code name for the AI they're working on!

Hold on, my wife says there's some pinker people at the door or something.
"These people aren't the ones you seek."

Pinker People (eyes glazed over as you gesture towards them): "These people aren't the ones we seek..." 😋

Pinker people? Not sure what you're talking about. I guess you must be responding to someone that has me blocked. [emoji43]‍[emoji94]
There are a TON of the PINKER people.

Yeah, that joke is old enough that I think it's time for it to get a colonoscopy...
