Spells no Sorcerer would take...

Zhure

First Post
... Flesh to Stone. What could be less sorcerous than that? I'm looking for the geekest limited use spell from the core rules.

my sorcerer uses identify but we have a modified house rule on the spell. It only takes the same time to cast as the rest of the 1st level spells.

My am about ready to hit 7th level and still trying to figure out my 1st and 2nd level spells to take.

I've never seen a sorc using "Tenser's Floating Disc". And what about "Scrying"? I mean, always carrying a mirror around plus a casting of 10 min (IIRC), ah no...

Here is a list that in my oppinion, I wouldn't find worth taking as a sorcerer.

Alarm
Animate Rope
Detect Undead
Hold Portal
Magic Weapon
Message
Mount
Nystul's Magic Aura
Nystul's Undetectable Aura
Protection from good/law/chaos (not evil)
Reduce
Silent Image
Summon Monster I
Ventriloquism

Continual Flame
Leomund's Trap
Levitate
Magic Mouth
Obscure Object
Whispering Wind

Explosive Rune
Gentle Repose
Magic Circle vs. Chaos/law/good (not evil)
Secret Page
Sepia Snake Sigil
Shrink Item
Wnd Wall

Fire trap
Hallucinatory Terrain
Illusionary Wall
Leomund's Secure Shelter
Remove Curse

Animal Growth
Animate Dead
Nightmare
Permanency
Rary's Mneumonic Enhancer

Analyze Dweaomer
Contingency
Guards and Wards
Legend Lore
Mordenkainen's Lucubration
Stone to Flesh

Mord's Mag. Mansion
Sequester

Antipathy
Binding
Clone
Sympathy
Trap the Soul

Refuge
Summon Monster IX

Yeah, I'm having a slow day.

A couple disagreements:
-Flesh to stone is a fine, save-or-die spell for a sorcerer to take. It can even be used to get prisoners, if you need 'em, without having to rely on clerical magic to get them back. Did you mean Stone to Flesh, Zhure?
-Shrink Item is an awesome spell, and may be the 3rd 3rd-level spell the sorcerer in our game takes. Very versatile spell.
-Villainous sorcerers could easily take magic circle against good.
-Rary's Mnemonic enhancer available to sorcerers.
-Silent image can be a really useful first-level spell, although if a sorcerer is planning on taking higher-level illusions, it'd be best to wait.

Psifon: Not take animate dead?! Why not? That would be one of the coolest spells to have handy. In an adventuring party you know bad guys are gonna die, animate them and get them working for you!

Mount is also a great spell!

Analyze Dweomer or Contingency might also be worth it.

Mordenkainen's Lucubration is not a Sorcerer spell, Wizard only (good spell, BTW).

Roland, judging from Psifon's list, I would say it is geared for good-aligned PCs. It may be a little too creepy (and in bad taste) for a good character to have bleeding/entrail-dragging/burnt/decaying zombies walking around with them. I know this could be a purely flavor/style thing, and the alignment rules MAY allow it, but my good aligned PC would certainly not do it, despite the benefits.
