Spider Man 2 Questions:Spoilers

I am extremely lazy and I didn't really feel like skimming through six to eight pages of previous reviews to possibly find my question unanswered so I selfishly decided to begin a whole new thread. I finally saw the movie this weekend and I must say that all of my expectations and more were met. The only thing I was confused on was why Peter was losing his powers in the first place. Was it a mental thing like the doctor said at first?

To me it was be more about stress, which is kind of sort of mental but not complete as it does affect your body. Stresses raises blood pressure, pulse; it can hinder a male in ways not really fit for discussion on this forum… I can’t imagine shooting webs to be that different.

*cough* okay then! But if it was just stress, than wouldn't he have still had it, even after he got his powers back? It seems to me that if the problem was just stress, than he's going to be losing his powers off and on for a LONG time.

That's how I saw it as well. He was clearly becoming more conflicted with his role as Spider-Man and the demands it placed on his life.

Stress is crazy in that it can only affect you if you let it. It’s very curable and it’s very fixable but you have to be willing to except what comes your way and that’s why when Peter/Spiderman finally accepted his roll his stress related issues went away.

But even after he chose to remain Spiderman, he proceeded to jump off a building screaming "I'm BACK!!!!" before discovering that he still was just plain old Peter Parker. (Much to the discomfort of his back) Why didn't his powers return until MJ was taken?

Alright, here's how I remember it.

After Peter's discussion with Aunt May, he realizes that he needs to be Spiderman, not just for himself, but for others as well. Anyway, for whatever reason, he goes to the top of a building and prepares himself for a jump to the other side. While in mid-jump, he yells truimphantly "I'm BACK!!!" right before falling on top of a car below. His back is badly hurt, showing that he also still does not have his super human ability to withstand large amounts of pain.
Anyway, later he is having lunch with MJ, when his Spidey-sense decides to kick in and warns him of the car that is about to crash through the window, giving him time to save them both. (so I am correcting myself, he gets his powers back as soon as MJ is in danger)

What I am wondering is why he wasn't able to make the jump from the building, even though he had already accepted that he was always going to be Spiderman.

I would put that down as adrenaline… Not the answer your wanting I’m sure but it’s the best I got. :\
