Spider Men, Spider Men

First Post
The category is listed as 1E/2E/OD&D, but it applies to all editions, really (with an emphasis on 3E).

Can you guys help me to compile a list of Spider races in the various editions of D&D? Regular spiders are okay, though I'm mainly looking for intelligent varieties. The ones I can think of offhand:

Ettercap (3E MM)
Dokufu (3E Oriental Adventures)
Aranea (3E MM)
Planar Spider (Mystara Monstrous Compendium)
Phase Spider (3E MM)
Monstrous Spider (3E MM)
Chitine (3E Monsters of Faerun? Underdark)
Drider (3E Monster Manual)
Bebilith - sort of (3E MM)
Retriever - sort of (3E MM)

I know there are probably a ton I'm missing. Help a brother out?

Cool- I'll add it to the list. Do you have a source on it offhand?

most of the ones you have listed are in earlier editions.

Yeah, I know that- I was just putting the source I knew of them from most recently, because it's 3rd Edition stats I'm interested in primarily. It would be handy to have a complete list of sources, though, especially for creatures not updated for 3.5 yet. I'll probably go back and relist the source info.

Chagmat, Dragon Magazine #63. One of my personal favorites (still used in my 3.5E campaigns today). Medium-sized, multiple arms, come in both priest and warrior varieties. They're featured ina module of the same name in that issue, which could be easily adapted if you wanted to use a different type of spider creature.

There's an intelligent spider race in Oriental Adventures, but for the life of me I cant remember what they're called. I'll have to look it up when I get back home.

There are a couple in DEITIES & DEMIGODS: salt spiders, and an evil spider god. When I get home I'll get the full details on them. They're from the Nehwon Deities section.

I'm with you. I never quite understood why chagmat never caught fire. Maybe drow sucked up all the spider-monster mind share?

There's a cool new species of spider in Dungeon #138, the Hastendeath Spider. It poisons its victim, crawls inside its victim's mouth, and lays thousands of eggs in the stomach of its victim. These eggs hatch within 3 days and consume the victim from the inside out.
