I realize this has probably been discussed before, but I finally roke down and bought this. I could no longer wait for a price drop as I goofed off with y other games. And all I have to say is.

Unfreakinbeleivable.

Ok I have more to say, this game is the coolest of the cool stealth games I've played. The hours just melted away when I put this in and I almost forgot to pick my friend up at the airport. :o

I just need HDTV to make this X-Box experience all the better.(then again I know crap about HDTV so I don't know if it would be that big of an imporvement.)

I don't like PC control interface. I know lots of people like it for games like this and for things like FPS but give me a console controller any day for any action based game. About the only thing I like a PC control interface for are RPGs.

And for the graphics I can't complain there great as is. The PC might be better but I'm not sure its by enough to sell it for me when I prefer the console interface. And for those with HDTV the Xbox version might look jsut as good as the PC version fo all I know.

Hard, but fun

Heya:

I got an XBox just to play Splinter Cell (well, also for Knights of the Old Republic, due soon I think). I kind of wish I'd waited for the PC version, since using a mouse for aiming is far easier and faster for me than a controller, plus the ability to save anywhere in the PC version would've been an absolute godsend. There were a handful of points in the game where something relatively challenging occurs _just_ before a save point. Kind of frustrating at those points.

On the other hand, I enjoyed the heck out of SC. Extremely hard game (I played on Normal) for me. There were several spots where I was literally growling in frustration. After cooling off, I'd check my inventory and see a couple spare land mines, or spare airfoils, or _something_, and that would make the difference.

Best stealth model since the last Thief game, in my opinion. Which reminds me that I'm really looking forward to Thief 3, hopefully this year. ;)

Take care,
Dreeble

For me I can aim quickly and cleanly with a controller, but can't hit a barn with a mouse, though I can make do wth the trackball kind. I suppose I could get into game form if I played more games like that on my PC, but for me all my skills are devoted to a controller style game.

I don't think the control issue is that bad for games like this. It's not a fast paced 'twitch' games where it's constant shooting, so the slight loss of control since you're not using a mouse never bothered me. And hey, for other games, as long as they're well done, the controller thing isn't an issue either, especially nowadays where analog sticks are used.

Anyways, I loved Splinter Cell. Great gameplay, and amazing lighting. I can't recall if it had HDTV support, it's been months since I rented it, but in general, games that do have it look amazing. That whole higher-res argument goes out the window when it's plastered on a big screen. Sure you can double the resolution on a computer monitor, but...it looks absolutely fine on an hdtv. I doubt I'll ever wait for a PC version of a game if it's available on a console. Well, maybe a few types of games, but not many.

I had alot of fun playing it. My only complaint is I never got the feeling of any progression in the game. The story progressed, but the mechanics of the missions always seemed the same. There really wan't anything different from the first to last mission I played.

If you have an xbox, you at least should rent this game.

Completely opposite for me. I can't hit a thing with a controller. :(

One of the best games I've ever played, period. The controller works wonderfully for me, and I've been playing on the PC for years. I only recently got a couple of consoles this Christmas. Splinter Cell's graphics are outstanding, and consistent, which was a big reason for my getting a console game. I got tired of trying to figure out how a game would play on my different systems...did I have the right graphics board? Fast enough processor? Would I have to upgrade? Again?

Besides which, Halo showed that you can do a first-person shooter on a console, and do it well. It's just a question of learning to use a different, not necessarily better or worse, system.

SC was ok. It had some fun moments, but it felt annoyingly inconsistant at times. If a game is going to have the option of shooting lights, then have all of them shootable or some way to know which are and which are not.

The game was definitly one of caught/restart. It was annoying to have to go through many long annoying moments just to get caught at a hard one down the line- to go through it all again.

The rifle was the best part of the game- it was fun to have all of the options. I especially like the cameras.

Ok, I change my mind. Ironside doing the voice was the best part of the game.
