[SPOILERS] Andromeda TV General Thread

Didn't they do a story arc with Rev Brem, when he undergo a startling transformation since he departed Andromeda?

Yeah, he was turned into some sort of human-magog hybrid, in a somewhat miraculous event. But he hasn't been brought back as a regular yet.

They also did an interesting story with Radhe, Dylan's best friend turned traitor.

That was the best episode the whole season. They turned him from a traitor into a hero.

I thought he was cured of his allergic reaction to the makeup used for 1.5 seasons.

There was also one episode in which Trance (speaking to herself) referred to Beka as "The One" (beggining of the Trimming the Bonsai tree epsiode, when the assassin tries to kill Beka, Trance says to herself, "Does he know that she is The One?") so there is some basic ground work for a "grand scheme"

It is weird. My theory is that Trance's people may very well be some sort of divine agents or something intended to counteract the machinations of the magog god. However, they aren't all nice. The episode from last season which first introduced the nasty Pyrians, also mentioned the actions of another of Trance's people. He apparently brught chaos to a world and caused a massive war IIRC. Then in this week's episode, we see they've had second thoughts about the new Commonweath, and were willing to see the Pyrians destroy it so the magog could be stopped.

Then there's the big mystery of what the Vedrans are up to. They're the founders of the original Commnwealth (they look kind of like blue centaurs or something). At the end of the Nietschean war their world, Tarn Vedra, the capital of the Commonwealth, was cut off from the slipstream, and they haven't been seen since. Well, until the end of last season when one showed up. Apparently they cut themselves off from the slipstream on purpose, and I'm pretty sure they're aware of the magog threat. They've also been monitoring Dylan's progress and approved of his efforts. But it's still a huge mystery about what their plans are too.

And, there are other things I think are bad news for the future - don't expect to see Tyr Anasazi much (if at all) in the 4th season....
Okay, where did you hear this? (Please cite source.)

In any science fiction series, one popular character tend to stand out from the rest of the crew: Mr. Spock from TOS, Worf from TNG, ... and Tyr Anasazi from Andromeda.

If Keith Hamilton Cobb depart from the show as a regular (following Brent Stait who portrayed Rev Bem), it's going to leave a large void.

"And I am Tyr Anasazi out of Victoria by Barbarossa, out of Isis by Temujin II, out of Faihu by Raja, out of Ariadne by Hadrian, out of Ti Mo by Temujin I, out of Mannaz by Suleiman, "The Sultan." And I am the father of Tamburlaine out of Freya, the father of the next thousand years."

This type of change, if it happens, will be a major blow to the series. The loss of Rev Bem badly hurt the show, I thought. His return and transformation didn't really work, in my opinion, and I was disappointed to see him transformed into just another near-human alien, especially since he wasn't going to return as a regular. Losing Tyr or having him fade into the background may be too big an additional change for the show.

What can they do? I think that the makeup department tried everything on Brent Stait and still he is allergic. I mean I feel sorry for the actor. But can we stand to have another actor who has no allergic reaction to makeup and stand in as Rev Bem?

That is something Mrs. Roddenberry and executive producer Kevin Sorbo must decide on yet another change in direction for the show, to keep Keith onboard as Tyr.

But that's what you get when you lose a great writer in Robert Hewitt Wolfe.

I hate to say this but I was hoping that Andromeda would be a replacement show for longtime Trek audience who do not like the new format (nor another dismal creation by Berman & Braga). But the more turmoil this show is causing, the more it will lose viewership and, being a syndicated show, may also lose the local TV stations airing it.

Sorry, Ranger REG, but that's not what's happening. In the February Sweeps, Andromeda came in as the leading syndicated show. It beat out X-Files, Stargate SG-1, Mutant X, Buffy reruns, The Practice, ER.

Ratings wise, the show is doing well, and it has been renewed for that fourth season. It seems that as far as teh mass market is concerned, the move was correct, or at least not terribly damaging.

You can check today's SciFi Wire for the second report I've seen on it. I cannot find the first.

The specific story is here

Ack! It would be a shame is Tyr left. But, truthfully, I was thinking very early in the series that he would eventually die or leave... why? He is the most morally-questionable character. If the show is about them doing consistently "Good" things, his character will either constantly be at odds with the group or would have to change.

It seems that this has become the case and he is falling into the background if not going altogether.

I liked the character though - it is the fact that his motives are always so questionable and that he isn't the most righteous character that makes him so interesting (that friction and uncertainty)..

(note, not that i don't also like the righteous characters, just that Tyr does hold interest in his own right).

ah well... guess we can only wait and see what develops.

:(

Well, I'm afraid I'll say something unkind - it seems to have a lot to do with Mr. Sorbo's ego.

Tyr just doesn't make a good toady for Dylan, and I don't blame the actor for leaving when a rich character with powerful personality and plot-motive-force is reduced to short quips.
