[SPOILERS] Andromeda TV General Thread

I see some synergy here.

Dylan Hunt is rescued from the edge of a black hole. Kevin Sorbo and the other people in charge at Andromeda are pushing the series towards the edge of a black hole.

I thought Andromeda had potential in its beginning, but it has lost a lot since Gene Wolfe left. Brent Stait left, and a character who added much to the show left. (I did enjoy the brief one-episode visit. I would like it better if Brent Stait could return more frequently.)

The loss of Tyr Anasazi eliminates a foil to Dylan Hunt, and someone who would be willing to challenge him and his beliefs. While there may be some good episodes left (like the good Gaheris Rhade episode), I think Andromeda is in decline.

What can they do? I think that the makeup department tried everything on Brent Stait and still he is allergic. I mean I feel sorry for the actor. But can we stand to have another actor who has no allergic reaction to makeup and stand in as Rev Bem?

That is something Mrs. Roddenberry and executive producer Kevin Sorbo must decide on yet another change in direction for the show, to keep Keith onboard as Tyr.

But that's what you get when you lose a great writer in Robert Hewitt Wolfe.

I hate to say this but I was hoping that Andromeda would be a replacement show for longtime Trek audience who do not like the new format (nor another dismal creation by Berman & Braga). But the more turmoil this show is causing, the more it will lose viewership and, being a syndicated show, may also lose the local TV stations airing it.

I agree with your assessment of the show quality-wise, but, as was pointed out above, apparently there are quite a few folk who like what is going on.

I don't know what they could have done about Rev Bem. I'd say they could have kept trying to find make-up that didn't bother him. I'm sure the suit was heavy and hot, and the make-up caused allergic reactions, apparently, but...I can't entirely believe some other solution couldn't have been found. The original make-up just seemed somehow more evocative, more expressive, than the new Rev Bem. I guess it's kind of academic now.

I'm sure Sorbo's ego had soemthing to do with many of the changes to the direction of the show, but, when you think about it, the show was essentially created as a vehicle for him. That doesn't mean he should totally dominate it, but he went into it with the assumption that he would be the center of the show.

Tyr was a very interesting character. It's too bad he's leaving. Still, there could be room to do more with the other characters, which have been reduced down to perhaps even less of a role than Tyr.

Maybe the show will somehow find its legs in the 4th season. You never know. I don't expect it, but hey, maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Yeah, but the funny thing is, I never did like any science fiction show because of the "star" captain ... well, except maybe Captain Sisko of DS9 but he is also surrounded by the best yet interesting cast of characters.

But like I favor Worf on TNG, the holographic Doc on VOY, and even Mr. Spock on TOS, Tyr Anasazi is my favorite on Andromeda.

I don't know if I can watch the show further if he leaves. I probably watch it for the "eye candy" reason and ignore the story, which is what Braga usually do with his shows, which range from near-nudity to professional wrestlers ("Tsunkatse" episode on VOY).

Besides, I like the conflicting dynamic of the relationship between Tyr and Dylan, just like Spock & Kirk, Sisko & Kira (when she was guarded around him in the first season), Janeway & Seven, etc.

No, they can`t do this - Andromeda NEEDs Tyr, without it, I will always have to see Hunt/Sorbo, and I do not really like him - this might destroy the show, at least for me.

Tyr was the most interesting character aboard, you never knew if or when you could trust him.
Without him... :(

well, i read the article about Tyr leaving. is this article a rumor or actual fact? i wasn't able to figure out.

i have only watched up to episode 2 for season 3 so far. i can honestly say i was a bit disappointed with episode 2. the commonwealth appeared to be almost fully established and it seemed capt. dylan did not really want anything to do with it.

i can only hope the eps get better...

Ask her. Is she referring to the computer games or the book version?

Most people associate D&D in its original pen-and-paper format used by freaks & geeks, except younglings.

There are only so many substances from which to make large-scale prostheses, and only so many substances with which you can get them to adhere to a human body. Mr. Stait is simply allergic to the stuff that's available. Unless you expect them to start hiring research chemists for one actor, there isn't much else to do.

Er, well, the new Rev Bem still involves a lot of prosthetics. The implication seems to be they found something that doesn't bother him. Perhaps he simply didn't like wearing the bulky suit.
