[SPOILERS] Firefly 12/06

And the whole action scene, starting from the first shot until they pump the head torturer full of bullets, was brilliantly filmed. I was laughing and shouting, "Yeah! Oh yeah!" through the whole thing -- not normal for me :D. Especially when Zoe tumbled forward, pulling out two guns. Pure John Woo goodness!

I'm glad to know that I wasn't the only one. :)

To me, the freakiest part was River's little "routine" at the end. THat was DEFINITELY something the Academy did to her. How about her "No power in the 'verse can stop me" speech to Kaylee?

Kaylee wasn't just embarrassed in the end - she was freaking scared. After all, how many of us know how to interact with someone who is both mentally unbalanced, and deadly? For all she knows, all she has to do is accidentally spill River's cereal bowl, and wind up with a slit throat or worse!

That was a direct quote from Kaylee...she said that when she took her apple back from River earlier in the show.

Isn't that eerie?

Best dern show on the air.

That was entirely how I saw it as well.

It was excellent up until the very end. Was anyone else exceedingly disapointed at the very end when we learn that the main bad guy was not killed. Up until this point there had been a realistic aproach to death and when to kill people. This started at the beginng with the death in the engine that set up this episode, and continued when they killed the pirates. Here however the main bad guy who Kidnaps and tortures Malcom for breaking a deal now and now has a few dozen dead henchmen and an even larger humiliation. Why in the world would you let him live considering the future consequences and that killing people who mess with you has already been established. Considering the number of dead and wounded already certainly worring about legal consequences was not an issue.

Yes I know from a meta-arc perspective you need a recurring threat, but alowing this flies in the face of the characters and tone of the show. This is not new from Josh though and I lost some respect for Buffy as well when it went from killing defeated villians to the whole lets figure out how to justify Spike as a main character. By falling into the we can't kill Major Bad Guys nomattter the opportunity the show is losing part of what makes it special and leaves it as just another formulaic TV show. Why not have the Reavers as the main bad guy(s) or the nameless faceless power of the government.

We don't know what they did to him or even if they had the time to kill him. That station looked huge, I'm sure there were reinforcements on the way. They may have had to get out of there in a hurry and the BBEG may have just simply slipped out of the room in all the activity. Ya know?

Yeah, from what Mal said, it was clear that they had fully intended to kill him, but they didn't get the chance. He had escaped while the other guy was killing Mal, and the others were more focused on saving their captain. But they definitely didn't just "let" him live.

These Firefly guys are just the opposite of Star Trek goody-two-shoes, aren't they?
:D

I have recently discovered this show and love it.

I think Kaylee is scared of River now. Kaylee was chasing River around the ship and basically tackeled her and took the apple from her. Now she sees this little innocent looking girl grab the pistol from her hand turn her head and close her eyes and kill 3 people then walk away like it was nothing. I think who ever did this was trying to make ruthless killers and was testing on River.

My own speculation based on nothing. I also think the Preacher was a "Black Ops" type guy for the Alliance. He retired and now wants to live peacefully but his past life is catching up with him.

On thing did tick me off about the episode. DID THE FREAKIN CREW PICK UP THE MEDICAL SUPPLIES TO TRY AND SELL SOMEWHERE ELSE????

they didn't show it, but being smugglers ... I would guess they grabbed the remaining med supplies.

I mean, lets rescue the captain ... but hey, we can recoup some money too.

they probably searched the other bodies too ... pick up some weapons/ammo ...

I hate to make this sort of request.

I wanted to see the show, but I had a concert, so I set the tape recorder. Unfortunately my brother, during the concert, wandered in and took the tape out because he is a moron.

If any of you taped the episode, would you mind mailing me a copy. I'll pay you.

Its all good.

Yeah, the preacher has had this 'dark past' thing building show by show.

A eps couple past when he was shot and the Alliance officer recognized his ID and immediately passed him through to the station was amazing.

Given everything seen about River and her enemies, I don't think she was being built as a killing machine specifically, I think they were working on some sort of psychic project. Look at those Men-in-Black-with-Blue-Gloves...

I was expecting Fox to cancel this show, but I thought there'd be a little more time...

I just love this show; everything about it. Just saw it last night, from taping it.

No, I don't think they 'let' the old bastard live. I think he scrambled away to another part of the station while his henchman was trying to kill Mal. If we see him again (assuming we get another season :( ) I bet he simply sends assassins rather than place himself within arm's reach of Mal again.
