staff fighting feat and ddi

Hi all,
With the staff fighting feat, you end up with a double weapon that "As a double weapon, both ends of the weapon deal 1d8 damage. The primary end gains the defensive and stout properties"

I _think_ that should give a +1 to AC (as a defensive weapon) but I can't get DDI to agree. Currently the staff is showing up as being in the "main hand" rather than handed so maybe that has something to do with it? I can't find a way to force the 2-handed thing.

The character can use it as an implement or weapon...

Any ideas? Just a DDI bug? Am I getting the rule wrong?

humm...

It also dropped the damage of my summer sentinel down to d8. Which takes precedent, the feat putting the damage at d8 or the class power which puts it at d12? If you use the weapon as a two-handed (rather than double weapon) do you lose the defensive property?

Bah, very confused.

Did you purchase a Quarterstaff or a Staff Implement?

And unless you plan to multi-class etc to get powers to let you attack with the offhand part of the staff its better to take hafted defense.

I will try to recreate this myself here in a few mins and will let ya know what I see.

***Edit: I just went into the OCB (online character builder) and created a sentinel druid of summer and purchased a Quarterstaff and equipped it and took Staff Fighting as a feat. I am getting the Summer damage boost of 1d12 but am not getting the +1 to AC on the sheet. So not getting the AC boost is a bug and you should report it.

***Edit: The hafted defense feat does give the appropriate boosts to defenses.

To the first, it's a staff implement. Has to be I think because I'm taking a superior staff implement. But it should still work as a quarterstaff yes?

As to the second, I'm planning on taking both feats. Defensive provides and unnamed bonus, so they should stack.

I did just go back and choose a staff implement and it still showed d12 for damage but did not show the AC bonus. So the AC bonus being shown is definitely a bug.

Yes, the D12 getting paved over by Staff Fighting is a legacy bug from some strange interaction in the Classic builder. Strange that we are seeing two different behaviours here. Incidentally, the offline builder crowd has fixed it, and also the matter of the AC bonus not showing up.

The bonus for TWD and wielding a Defensive weapon ends up on your sheet (in the Classic builder), but only as a conditional bonus under your AC line. Not sure if it still behaves this way in the new builder's output. Might want to check that if you haven't already.

Well...
Same d8 problem with a quarterstaff or staff implement. If I have staff fighting, it's a d8. If I deselect the feat it is d12.

Arg.

Thanks for all the help folks.

Mark

Strange. I am getting both D12 damage on basic attacks with the staff, and the +1 AC from Defensive.

This makes no sense that there are three people doing the same thing on the same program and getting three different results.

EDIT: I'm not getting the bonus to AC either (forgot that Sentinels can automatically apply Con mod to AC), but I do get the D12 on attacks with the staff.
