Yup, total control.
The combat is turn-based and uses the d20 Star Wars rules (slightly simplified). You can choose to do something every turn altho it's not completely clear at first where a 'round' ends and begins - it's just something you have to pick up as you play but does not hinder the experience (or you can just tell it to stop every round if you like).
The queue feature works well and is especially helpful when you finally get Jedi powers and more feats as it allows you to plan out what tactics you want to use. If you need to slow things down you can (as mentioned) with the white button so you can use an item, huck a grenade, change weapons, etc. Honestly, I haven't been using a whole mess of tactics as of yet because most of the enemies have been pretty easy to beat.
I was never a big fan of BG or NWN for that matter but I appreciated what they tried to do. That said, it does feel alot like those games but because of the setting and setup (read: perspective) it's a totally different game.
This is my favorite game of 2003 so far and that is saying alot for me considering the stuff that has come out so far.
