Star Wars: Religion?

Is there any religion in the Star Wars universe? If there is, is there a website that goes into any detail on it? Don't post anything here about it, just links if possible. I'd feel pretty bad if I or anyone else got banned because of the thread.

Mods if this thread is inappropriate just delete it. Sorry if it is.

There is definatly religion in Starwars.
The Jedi Code is one sort of religion.

Many individual planets have their own unique customs and religions. Aside from the Starwars Novels we dont see much of this detailed in any fashion because religion is not ment to be a central topic of focus in starwars.

Your best source for any of this information would be Starwars Novels, or the few d20 books like Geonosis and the Outer Rim. While these books dont tackle religion directly they can set you on the right path by describing the cultures and customs of a world so you can develop your own religions for use in the game around that information and still remain true to starwars.

One example of religion in starwars is the Correllian Diktat (i think thats what its called.) The political/religious leader of the Correllian homeworld is assumed to hold leadership by divine right. Its been forever since I read the Correllian Trilogy so I could be mistaken.

Your other best source for this type of information would be www.swrpgnetwork.com Check their forums.

Hope this helps!

Yep, other than the Jedi, religion just isn't something that Star Wars focuses on. Though others religion would be the group of monks(who's name escapes me...) that worship Banthas, there's the B'omarr Monks(Jabba's Palace was their monastery) who believe in the power of the mind itself....hmm, truthfully, most of the more primitive worlds actually worship the Force in whatever form they call it.

I believe - if memory serves - that the Bantha monks were called the Priests of Dim-U. I think it was in an Tatoonie sourcebook, though I can't remember if it was WEG's D6 or WotC D20.

There were actually a number of different cultures that had varying religions back when Star Wars was being done by West End Games (WEG). Unforunately, I'm currently at a loss to remember a single, solid one. I'm remembering about a dozen different ones, but I think they were all "home-brew" from my 15+ years of gamemastering D6 Star Wars.

Dim-U...yep, that was it. They were mentioned in Secrets of Tatooine, but I remember them being around earlier than that. Not completely sure they started with d6 Star Wars, but its possible. They may have come out of a comic somewhere...

I keep thinking that the Dim-U made an appearance in the adventure module: Tatoonie Manhunt which was D6. I loved that adventure...but not so much as the Black Ice one. My players soon hated Black Ice. I think I've ran that adventure a good two dozen times. I don't know how many times I used the R&D lab from that adventure though - probably close to fifty or sixty.

You aren't the only one. :) I recently got a hold of my old d6 books again and found BOTH of those modules. Yep, you're right, Dim-U were in the Tatooine Manhunt. That may have been their first appearance, considering when it was published.

The single strangest thing about the Star Wars set-up, for me, is that only a minority of sentients are 'Force-sensitive' and able to access consistently the ground of being of the universe. It means that most religions will not be functional, experiential religions at all but mere social/political groups based on faith.

It's no accident that the films don't feature religion outside the Jedi and Sith, and the same considerations make it usually a bad idea to showcase (other) religions in RPG play.

Yea, one could say that The Force is just lucas' analagram (is that the word?) for one all powerful god.
It wasn't a word in any version of English I know. But now you've coined it, though not uniquely, and it's pretty nice.

I'm no mod, but it's only real-world religion which can't be discussed. Fantesy/sci-fi religions don't count.
