They made the dark side more... Forgiving imo. They made it more roll-play influenced, which meant that someone could more easily be 'grey'. They allowed immediate use of a force point as a swift action in the same round as using a dark side power, to reduce the dark side point/s gained by 1.

Near as i can tell, removal of that mechanic was their only change.

I just liked the idea that the 'temptation' speaks to the player, as does the fear of a literal loss of control and the fact that characters can become the next big bad boss by accident. It's another more twisted form of death.

I guess I am remembering D20 where you became tainted at DSP = 1/2 WIS and fully consumed by the Dark Side (NPC land) at (DSP = WIS) or from failing a check when gaining a DSP after becoming "tainted." Is that still the case in Saga?

So, in d20 star wars, you are only considered tainted when the score equals half your wisdom score as you sais (rounded down), they got a +2 to any use the force checks and powers involving the dark side and -4 to using any light side powers, thereby increasing temptation for the players, but match your score and you lose your character. If dm allowed you to continue with them, you could no longer use the light and auto-drew from the dark when spending a force point.

In Saga, there's no tainted bonuses and you are considered tainted as soon as you gain one dark side point.

Again, i think d20 star wars did this better.

Yeah, I agree. The D20 system sounded a little better.

I just read an interesting take on a house ruled Dark Side mechanic. When you want to draw on the Dark Side, you earn a DSP and then roll a D20. Regardless of the roll, the value is treated as a 20. But, if the roll of the D20 is equal to or less than your current DSP total, you have to use that value until you spend another DSP to draw on the Dark Side, calling for another roll of the die. Each time you do it, the automatically generated value is reduced by 1, so a 19 the next time, then an 18, etc. I think the last part might be a little difficult to track, so I would probably change it to the value you get from the Dark Side die being treated as 21 - your DSP total. I haven't really thought about it at higher levels, it might be broken if you can effectively Take 10 or higher for all checks as a character approaches full consumption. Then again, bounded accuracy may ameliorate that to some degree. I'd probably also consider making it so you can only buy off one DSP per level. But then, I'm not a huge fan of grey jedi stuff.

NPC heroic characters do have Force Points, at least that is how I have always played them. I don't give them as many as you get when you raise a level, but some (sometimes 1/2, sometimes a little less).

As for Dark Siders gaining a advantage against heroes with the the above idea, none of the Dark Siders that you have face have had less then their Wisdom score in Dark Side points.

I sold off my old 1st and Revised Star Wars rule books LONG ago so I don't remember or have access to those rules BUT I do like the sound of them as you described. Saga is way to forgiving for Dark Side until you character just wants to be evil, its really hard to gain them. I like the ideas though and want to think about it a bit more...

GK, can you give us an idea of how far away everyone is from each other? I'd like to head over to the Gand since Cal is supposed to be a medic.

ETA: Also, I felt like there was a mechanic to restore HPs as an Action, but I can't find it in either the Medic or Medikit descriptions. I'm not sure if I made this up in my mind or if it was something that existed but was eaten by the forums.
