Star Wars Saga Edition [SECR] Preview #8 is Up

Just curious, but where did you order from? Most online retailers I've looked at aren't shipping it out until the 5th.

Walmart.com. On a whim, I looked, and it was removed for a while, but was reposted as "In Stock" on the 25th, I placed the order on 2-day shipping, and Voila! Showed up at my doorstep yesterday.

It is indeed, square - reminds me of some of my old High School Yearbooks. :) Despite people talking about how SMALL it is, it's info-dense; I only scratched the surface, only getting to read for about an hour and a half last night, though I've been following Grubman's and DonP's threads over on the WotC Star Wars forums.

I started making a character (remaking a Duros Soldier from an old campaign), and I was first struck by the fewer statistics I was writing out. Init Bonus? Don't need that; AC? Don't need that. Talents will make up for that, mind you, but it felt really weird making a character for it, compared to other d20 based games. I should get a chance to dig into it again later tonight, but it's looking really nicely put-together so far.

I had exactly the same experience writing out iconic characters stat blocks. I was also amazed how little time it took to write up complete, competent 16th and 18th level characters.

I'm betting General Grievous was the hardest. :) I looked him over and realized, four arms and all those melee feats and talents make him one complex son of a gun to construct! Maybe not hard to run, mind you, but the chains of stuff looked pretty long.

My FLGS should have my copy in tomorrow or Friday at the latest! I haven't been this stoked for a game to come out since 3E.

Same here. Actually, I have never been more excited about getting a new game than I am for the new SW.

Well, I don't have my physical copy yet, so I am officially jealous of you that do.

On the other hand, its nice to be able to talk about the book a bit more now. I'd bet Rodney will post a thought or two here as well, once he's covered from Celebration IV.

For those of you who don't know yet, it's been officially announced that Wizards will be releasing Galaxy Tiles in November, a new Starships of the Galaxy in December (written by Rodney, Gary Astleford and your truly), and next year a GM screen and the Force Unleashed Campaign Guide. Also, later this year the Dawn of Defiance, a 10-adventure campaign designed to take you from 1st to 20th level (and that's going to be free off the website).

So, lots of SW goodness coming down the pipe.

Glad to here that WotC is going to be giving us some support for SW. Now it looks like I'm going to have to subscribe to the website.

Figures that was the one place I hadn't checked until shortly after I posted my question. I guess if anyone would have nothing to fear from ignoring a street date, it would the True Evil Economic Empire :]

Just placed an order for 1-day shipping, so I should have it in my grubby paws when I get home from work tomorrow :D

I'm especially interested in the Dawn of Defiance campaign and the Starships book.

I could be wrong, but given my experience you're looking more at Monday. They usually don't start filling the order until about a DAY after you place it, and unless their "overnight" is priority orvernight, that means monday. Good luck, though!

For the last year or so, WOTC has been giving no love to SW at all outside of minis. My guess is that Lucasfilms "requested" more emphasis on the RPG, or something like that, because this level of renewed support is likely motivated by something external to WOTC. (They apparently make a whole lot more off of the minis than they do from the RPG, so I doubt they'd change their model unless directed by an outside source.)

Just a thought,
Flynn

Maybe WOtC was just being polite to their customers. They knew that a new edition was in the works, so rather than publish a bunch of books that won't be relevant in a few months they simply kept a lid on everything until it was all done.

I'm not saying it was that way, but it doesn't hurt to give them the benefit of the doubt.
