Stargate Emoverse to be cancelled

I cannot say I am upset.

The SyFy channel has announced that it will air the final 10 episodes of season 2 of SGU then not renew the show.

No loss at all. The entire show took a huge poop on the Stargate concept with it's "edgy" format. The writing was mediocre, 99% of the characters sucked, and the attempts to be cool failed.

Anyone think a whole new Stargate show will be attempted? Maybe a reboot of the series, since Earth is far from an underdog now and hiding the Stargate program is getting sillier and sillier.

It is old news. The new news is that SyFy --how it hurts to type that!-- has scheduled the remaining episodes.

I'm sad to see it go. Universe was a favorite Stargate property outside of the original film. I could have watched Dr. Begby-from-Trainspotting and Colonel Young plotting/emoting/fighting/making up, but not really, for several more seasons. Come to think of it, I liked most of the characters, particularly the minor ones comprising Team Science, and Sargent Angry.

The only thing I outright disliked was the stupid pop-song montage at the end of most of the episodes. While I'm not opposed, in theory, to bringing elements of shows like Dawson's Creek into the Stargate franchise, this was not the way to do it!

This was the first I heard of it when I saw an announcement on SyFy saying the final episodes were being aired soon.

I despised just about every character on the show. The only tolerable ones were Doctor "Hide everything from everyone" and Sargeant "anger management issues".

In addition the plots were just dumb. The worst had to be the people who stayed on the planet, died, and were returned by the aliens so they could die a second time among friends. It was so stupid. Aliens who can bring you back to life but only for a couple days was dumb. Even more dumb was a group of the crew deciding to stay behind on a planet and chosing to settle in the equivalent to upper Canada, guarunteeing the winter will kill them. They came down from a space ship in a shuttle. What did the planet not have anywhere equivalent to Kenya, Texas, Florida, or any other region that will stay comfortably warm 95% of the year?

Unlikely. See: Star Trek Enterprise.

It doesn't take much to kill a franchise these days (at least temporarily). Give it a decade or so and it'll be back, but you'll hate it just as much then because it won't be anything like what you remember.

Just wondering since SyFy is still in rather desperate need of a centerstage cash cow. There is only so long that they can milk that retarded "Ghost Hunters" series, and while the special effects reality show is pretty interesting its a one off that doesnt really have legs.

Maybe the Caprica replacement which is supposed to be during the heart of the first Cylon War will be that show. A show based around tons of space battle porn could pull it off. While the critics generally prefer the more emo episodes of nBSG and SG1/SGA the regular fans as a rule always remember the big battle episodes the most.

I kinda liked SGU.

But then again, I am not a Trekkie at all, and I know nothing and have never watched Dr. Who. I also only saw the first Stargate movie and only a few episodes of the original series and Atlantis.

But I also really liked Rome on HBO, Spartacus Blood and Sand (and now the prequel), and I am really stoked about the upcoming Game of Thrones.

Maybe I am just easy to please.... :)

The best SG-1 and SGA episodes where alternate reality adventures. As was Continuum, which was kick-ass.

They should just make a whole spinoff about the alternates. Less need to worry about continuity, less reasons to hold back. Just go wild.

Once upon a time, there was a show like that. It was called Sliders.
