[Stars Without Number] Hard Light

“Interesting…” Seigfried murmured as he fallowed and his grin eased, he just figured radiation burns from the star, but then that also begged a question in his mind, was the novium itself radioactive or just had a high energy potential? The qustinoed started to flow, But they would have to wait for latter. “Seigfried Wulf.” the tall man again stated, this time for Roy’s benefit before asking “So, are we heading to Dutta or a lodging?" He questioned

"Here we are then, from a cold rock to a hot one, such exciting this exploring the universe is. When is next ship to arrive?"

Jase looks at the papers, wondering how much he'd been paid.

"Pleased to meet you. I'm Jase McMoon. Roy, have there been any security incidents on the station?"

Roy answers questions as the group treks through the station's corridors.

"Here we are then, from a cold rock to a hot one, such exciting this exploring the universe is. When is next ship to arrive?"

"Not sure. The accident has disrupted the shipping schedule. We're going to have to get on the comm. See if we can get something worked out. Best case scenario: two weeks."

Jase looks at the papers, wondering how much he'd been paid.

"Pleased to meet you. I'm Jase McMoon. Roy, have there been any security incidents on the station?"

Inside the envelope are four credsticks, each keyed to a specific thumbprint. Jase finds his. The small screen displays 100 credits.

Roy answers Jase's question. "Nah. Nothing worth mentioning. I run a tight ship, and people know it. Get out of hand, and the base fine is 50 credits. More serious infractions get hazardous duty without extra pay. If someone gets really carried away, he gets locked in an airlock. Maybe I open the exterior portal, maybe I don't."

"So, is stuck here then for dve nedeli. Make the best on burning rocks. What is there to do here?"

Roy says, "Well, assuming I'm not working, things here aren't as grim as you'd think. There's a park on highdeck, and a theater on middeck. Shows holomovies. We have concerts and plays and debates. The Midnight Sun on middeck serves up drinks and music. If you're looking for companionship, we've got the Clouds and Rain. Rates are reasonable."

Cameron looks from the security officer to the others, "So... not all bad I suppose."

"Well. Lets get a move on. Gotta figure out something out for our stay here. At least until the next ship arrives. I doubt there is any free rides here." The young man says motioning the head of security on. "I do not suppose there are any openings in security?"

"You'll have to talk to Dutta about security openings," Roy says.

The quartet follows their escort to a cluster of elevators midstation. The ride to the middeck is quick. The elevator door shushes open. Roy points to a door as he walks on. A sign on the door reads "Station Offices". Roy heads through the door into a lobby decorated with a few prints of colorful nebulae. There is no secretary present. A few chairs sit against the walls. Roy moves across the lobby, down a short hallway, and knocks on another door.

"Enter."

Roy opens the door and gestures for the visitors to head in.

The office is spartanly furnished. Behind semi-circular desk stands a tall, dark, flinty-eyed man with close-cropped hair and an unblinking gaze. He appears to be somewhere past seventy but still vigorous.

"I'm Yash Dutta," he says, "and this is my station."

"Hello... ah... Mr. Dutta. " Cameron gets out not knowing exactly how to address the man. "I am Cameron Jhal. I do not suppose there are any openings, at least until the next ship arrives?"

"Well... I have not seen the place, but I hear the amenities are not too bad." the man adds with a smile. "Sorry to heard about your injured crew. As you are aware we were kind of let go."
