'm the opposite. Reeve personifies the big blue boy scout for the time period but having read more than a few Superman comics none of the movies thus far actually capture Superman or the DCU accurately for my tastes. Donner's 1978 Superman gets the character right but none of the spectacle. Superman Returns is just trying to copy paste what Donner did and fell flat. Man of Steel captured the spectacle and scope better than any other Superman movie to date but...that character wasnt Superman. Man of Steel was an excellent first contact/alien invasion movie... but it wasnt Superman.

This one looks like it's a great balance and really is going to capture the tone of an actual comic and even as a huge Marvel fan (both comics and movies) I am 100% here for this iteration of Superman.
I'm not now or ever have been a Superman comic reader. I'm more of a Batman, Spider-Man, FF reader so I will admit I don't know the subtleties and various iterations of the character througerh the years depending on who's writing at the time. So, I may be looking at it from a one-dimensional perspective.
I have tickets for IMAX @ AMC Lincoln Center for both my self and my now grown son. His only real Superman exposure was Man of Steel at this same theater 12 years ago when he was 11.
Man of Steel was 11 year ago...I started dating my nemesis, Ms. Tessmacher, at that time. Kidding aside I hope you folks have a great time.

I noticed this too and it is what DC has done in the past. Crammed too much into one movie,
Lots of movies have dozens of characters in them. In this one, many of them just happen to be wearing costumes because that's the world it's set in. Doesn't mean they all have to have plots and story arcs--some will just be short appearances or background. You should look up how many named characters there are in Titanic (they're all wearing period costumes instead of superhero costumes) or some of the Harry Potters. And the LotR movies... don't watch those whatever you do if you don't like movies with a lot of characters! I think there's, like, over a hundred. The Godfather has a crapload, too, I seem to recall.
why is Hawkgirl or Mr Terrific there?
I guess you'll have to wait and find out..

I think you took my post far from where I was coming from. So, lets agree to disagree, I respect your opinion. I don't agree with it, but thats what makes life great, free will and the ability to speak your mind and speak tour opinion.

What don’t you agree with? That lots of movies have large numbers of named characters? It’s a verifiable fact. I promise I didn’t just make it up. While one is entitled to one’s own opinions, one is not, as the saying goes, entitled to one’s own facts. :)

I do think its a fair concern, because we have seen a number of ensemble superhero movies recently fall flat, and one reason was they just spread their narrative investment too thinly across too many characters.

Now yeah, if most of the JL is just kind of there for battle and to give a one liner to supes, and the movie stays focused on him...that's perfectly fine. But if we actually see any kind of investment in the other characters and start learning backstories and plots and romances and xyz it might fall into the same rabbit hole.

I’m not concerned. I’ll decide if it’s a problem after I’ve seen the movie, not before. Until then, it’s a non-issue.

There are also more than a few single character superhero movies that fall flat because of weak writing and or editing.

There's also the fact that James Gunn wrote and directed THREE Guardians of the Galaxy movies. I think he knows how to juggle characters, giving everyone their moment to shine while also being able to deliver on the primary character's development and arc (Peter Quill in the first two and Rocket in the third).

I mean sure, just as we both are excited about this new superman....but we will decide if that excitement is justified after we see the movie.

Trailers elicit excitement and concern, and we talk about it all in the thread. That's just how it goes!
