Trailer SUPERMAN Final

I read years ago that the reason Superman never came to the big screen (and same for Spider-Man) was they had to wait for technology to catch up so that making Superman fly had to look believable, and they did that. Same thing with Sam Raimi's Spider-Man.
I think there was more to it than that. Before the first Superman movie the idea of a superhero movie was considered childish. Nobody was interested. Superman proved otherwise, but it wasn’t really until Batman 1989 that studios really started to take the idea seriously.

While Dean Cain has gone full Kevin Sorbo since, Lois & Clark was amazing for the mid-1990s. Both leads were great, really looked the part and had fantastic chemistry. Worth watching some clips, at the very least. The show spent a lot of time at the Daily Planet and had good dynamics there.
Just never saw it on regular basis enough to make me want to watch it.

Dean Cain

My point was and perhaps I wasn't clear is that there seems to be too many superfluous characters than needed.
Yes. You were very, very clear.

You said you disagreed with me when I said was that there were many films with lots of characters. Even though I listed a bunch.

And yes, any superfluous characters are not needed. That’s what superfluous means.

Yeah, after Superman II the franchise fell off with each sequel being worse than the last. Batman 89 was great at the time but it's still campy in its own way.

You said you disagreed with me. But all I said was that there were many films with lots of characters. I don’t know what you disagreed with. If not that there are many films with lots of characters (which there are), what else is there to disagree with?
Heres my take. You see random movie "X" and a bunch of characters show up, they dont really matter, out of the scene, out of the story. No one really acres. But Superman, in this case with the DCU start small, Supes and Lex. Any more just muddies the waters IMO and should be introduced in a sequel. The average audience member isn't going to recognize Hawkgirl let alone Mr. Terrific.

Hawkgirl has the benefit of having a very clear visual identity: "I bet that winged woman is called something like 'Hawkgirl.'"

Mr. Terrific, on the other hand, looks like a strange remix of Mr. T. He's a great character, though, so fingers crossed that he's used well in the movie.

Yes, I understood you the first time. Of course, the average audience member didn't recognise any of the many characters in Titanic or The Godfather, either.

Here's why it doesn't worry me: being able to recognise all the characters in a film isn't important. They'll recognise Superman; that's enough. I imagine that the rest fill out the world and make it feel real and lived in, like the 20 or so named characters in Star Wars. It's not like Lucas was worried nobody would know who Mon Mothma or Greedo or Wedge Antilles are.

Unless they've made a major misstep and tried to give every character a ton of screentime, a character arc, and a plot, they'll just be there to populate the world, which is one where metahumans have been known about for 300 years. Metahumans are (relatively) commonplace in the DC universe, and the world will be portrayed as such.

That's what I'm not concerned. I simply think it doesn't matter.
