Trailer Superman Teaser Trailer

Its been mostly miss for DC in this area, so its a valid concern. Black Adam was a total mess with like a dozen characters all just showing up.
i think that the problem for DC, where this is concerned, is that unlike the MCU, the dumping of other JLA/JSA members into a movie feels unearned.

This had been there problem all along. Batman vs Superman is a valid story -- but it requires a lot of buildup, of establishing how these people were suspicious, then friends, then ultimately on the opposite side of a philosophical (rather than moral) argument. The story works in DKR because it had the weight of history behind it.

I honestly thought that those other characters were the strongest part of Black Adam. Particularly Dr. Fate.
I'd say that those characters were far better realized and cast than was Black Adam.
I'm sure it's a designed smear campaign by Luthor and/or Maxwell Lord.
If following how things play out in the comics, in some iterations, then it will be some variation of Luthor believing either that Superman could go all Homelander, or that he's making humans weaker by having them depend upon his intervention.

People are mad at Superman again? The most virtuous of super heroes? He isn't Homelander....
Imagine if Superman were real. Imagine the things he would do and people he would fight for and save. Your average person on the street, especially in the US, might not like who Superman sides with or rescues. Superman started out fighting evil bankers and union-busting companies. Hell, his arch-nemesis is a billionaire businessman.

Hoult's comments at the press thing suggest Luthor is going to have "complex" motivations, which kind of points toward Diniverse Lex (which I am totally on board with).

Incidentally, the New 52 Superman had a run like this, for people wanting to see a modern take on it. Superman's uniform was a Superman t-shirt, blue jeans and, sometimes, a simple red cape that looked like he got it from Spirit Halloween. The run was by Morrison in Action Comics.

Generally speaking, the New 52 Superman run was a weird misfire (the Wikipedia summary will make your brain hurt) but Superman as Super Woody Guthrie was really neat.
