I'd say that those characters were far better realized and cast than was Black Adam.

I think the Rock as Black Adam was great casting, but his ego got in the way of what could have been a good movie. His insistence that he doesn't lose a fight makes him a terrible choice for a villain, and Black Adam is absolutely a villain, even if a complex one with sometimes heroic (or antiheroic) tendencies.

Superman is inherently Other; we often read about past stuff and think oh, had I been there I'd never do that, when the actual truth is, the majority of folks did. >.>

Superman as Super Woody Guthrie was really neat.

That sounds great, actually. Superman raised by West Virginian coal miners in a company town. That would be amazing.

Most of them were, yes. The Rock as Black Adam was fine, but not particularly great, IMO. Aldis Hodge as Hawkman and Pierce Brosnan as Fate were magnificent, though. And, yes, The Rock's meddling is one of the contributing factors to why the film tanked.

I've often said that if there was someone who could do, and did, what Superman does, for an awful lot of people he'd evoke either worship or terror, sometimes both at the same time.

It's tedious for some of us. But we can't really have actual heroes anymore I guess. The Jedi and Superman.... Just other people we don't like because they're different or flawed. I miss the innocence of having actual heroes
