D&D General Survivor Thread: Best D&D Movie

You missed King Arthur. The one with Kiera Knightly and Clive Owen. It's not a great movie, but IMO the Knights are a great D&D party. You've got Ray Stevenson with a great axe and Ioan Gruffudd with two weapon fighting! Sure, it's a low-magic setting, but it still works for D&D (in particular as an example of every character having a different fighting style, in spite of that being very strange historically).

EDIT: I can't believe I didn't mention Mads Mikkelsen's wise ranger character!

Heath Ledger would find his genius later, but it sure wasn't in the "hurl in your mouth" sensation that was "A Knight's Tale." When the medieval crowd started off doing Queen's "We Will Rock You" clap clap stomp, I should have quit.
A Knight's Tale is fabulous. It's a great sports movie, albeit set in an unusual time frame. As long as you approach it like that, it's great fun.

So many gooood movies that aren't very D&D-esque. This will be hard to downvote.

I never, ever, ever base characters I play on characters from film or novels - except the one time I did. I played a character intentionally very much like Mouse from Ladyhawke. So while there may be other more D&D like movies, my very first vote needs to be for the one time that a movie and D&D crossed for me.

I second this. The only thing I think that was a bad decision was his love interest... yuck! I would have gone after his armorer myself--she was funny, sweet, and beautiful. :)

I enjoy the movie looking at it more from the point of view of players in an enhanced ren-fair.

There are tons of other movies on this list that are less D&D to me than A Knight's Tale!

Very sad to see two of my favourites - Pirates and Knight's Tale - getting hammered here. If I could upvote more than one I'd be fighting for them, but in my mind there's only one (well, three) movies that perfectly capture the look of D&D. And so:

Conan the Barbarian (1981) 22
Conan the Destroyer 24
LoTR 21 + 1 = 22
The Hobbit 20
Harryhausen Sinbad (1970s) 20+1
Clash of the Titans (1981) 21
Percy Jackson Films 16 - 2 = 14

Dragonheart 20
A Knight's Tale 10
Mythica series 20
Warcraft 12
Ladyhawke 21
Krull 21
Princess Bride 24

p.s. surprised Eragon isn't on here; it's every bit as D&D-ish as many of these.
