SW SAGA EDITION: Preview 7

In the film, wasn't Han still mostly blind in this scene? I'm guessing that is glossed over for this account though (although we don't really know exactly what the -2 on the condition track really means)
On the initiative listings, Han as a -2 penalty as a "persistant" condition, which probably reflects that his eyes aren't completely working. He did say to Luke that his eyes were getting better, and that instead of a big dark blur he could see a big bright blur. Completely blind would probably be the full -10 penalty.

Earlier previews referenced that instead of the plethora of separate conditions and what they do, such as in D&D and other d20 games, SECR now has the condition track to handle all of that.

I got the impression that you only move down the track by -1 if you're threshold is exceeded by an attack's damage; how much it's exceeded by doesn't matter (unless you're at zero hp.)
I think that was explicitly explained in one of the other previews. I want to say #4 as that was the first combat one, but could also have been mentioned in the 1st preview.

Naw, we're better behaved than some of the knuckleheads on unmentioned message boards :] Besides, jinx would have been creating threads at exactly the same time instead a few minutes apart.

Have to say that was a very cool combat example, and was worth waiting the extra couple weeks for. Though I wonder, based on how much Luke was dominating that combat, how cries of "WTF?! Jedi are way too powerful!" are going to show up on the WotC SW boards (that seems to be where most of those types of comments and arguments show up).

Only problem I see with this preview is that now I'm really jazzed to start playing Saga Edition Star Wars, and there's no way I can make it to Celebration IV :(

I will say that even though Han was a one level higher, Luke seemed to have it all. Better HP, attacks, saves, and damage.

No... I think it's just a matter of Luke being the only one in this combat with the weapon and opportunity to actually initiate combat against the mooks. That aside, Lando was unlucky with his fall early, and Han and Chewbacca spent most of the combat trying to save him.

[snark]It took leia 12 TURNS to get into combat? What kind of worthless player does she have? I'd kick her out of the party[/snark]

Some interesting little tidbits in this. I like how they described Boba Fett's death in game terms. I wish more DM's would be creative with critical hits rather then the cut and dried "You hit it. The creature dies" I see way to often.

Basically, Luke Skywalker is played by the guy who forgets he has all these nifty abilities. If this were an actual game, he wouldn't be making unarmed strikes, or ever failing to reflect blasters.

Luke wipes the floor with the thugs because of the vast level difference. Notice how he does *not* wipe the floor with Boba Fett.

Also, Han has a better Reflex Defense that Luke, and I'm guessing he has better skills. But in combat, a Jedi kicks ass (as he does in the movies).

Agreed. I liked that instead of having Han sunder or disable Boba's jetpack, the rules had a simple critical hit resulting in death, and the GM got creative with the description.

lol I'm sorry, but Boba Fett's death is just silly. Describing Han as making an attack against him is a rather creative way of saying he inadvertently tapped the jump jet button and sent Boba Fett flying to his death via concussive head trauma.

Blame the GM, not the rules.

And the artcle *does* provide for the Expanded Universe version of Fett eventually escaping. ;)
