He doesn't seem to be a total bad guy. Sure, he ordered the acid trap to be reset, which was meant to kill every bounty hunter/pirate, in cold blood. But he obviously had reservation when fighting "Captain" Fern
There is an almost identical scene in Treasure Island where Silver holds a knife to Jim Hawkins’ throat. And a similar scene where he convinces the pirates to follow him to get the treasure rather than mutiny. Silver develops paternal feelings towards the kid, but doesn’t really stop being a scoundrel.

That’s true, and Silver pays the ultimate price for it. Perhaps Jod will too.
 








That was one of the best practical effects i've seen in a long time, also KB NBD almost dying brought a smile to my face since i've been there due to my own health issues. In fact that whole conversation about not being able to do things and not wanting to tell people that you can't do something hit home for me.
