Tacitcal Delay

Quip

First Post
Came up with an unusal idea for a feat... it looks good but since it messes with the initiative system I'm a little uncertain. Let me know what you think about it.

TACTICAL PAUSE [GENERAL]

Prerequisites: Improved Initiative, BAB 4+
Benift: When you choose to delay or ready an action, you can reduce your initiative score by up to 4 + your Dex modifier without effecting your initiative in successive rounds. If this value is exceed, then initiative is effected normally.
Normal: Your initiatve count remains at its reduced amount on successive rounds.
Special: A fighter may select this as one of his fighter bonus feats.

I like it, and I know a couple of characters that this would fit well. Not sure about the balance without playing with it, but at first glance it looks fine.

I like it as is, but in the interest of conversation have you considered allowing them to delay by their BAB + dex mod?

Thanks for the feedback, everyone!

The idea was to let them delay by as much as their regular initiative modifier. BAB makes just as much sense, though.

What is the point of the feat?
The chance to get two turns in a row if the opponent rolls a similar initiative?

More or less, I was looking to delay/ready with less penalty. I wanted to limit it somewhat, so I choose to limit it to 4 + dex mod. I thought with the limit it would make more sense than an unlmited delay.

There are two similar feats in the upgrade sheets of the Kalamar players Guide. Interruption and Expert Timing.

Just got a look at that, expert timing lets you delay without restriction, and has a wisdom 13+ prerequisite. I assume interruption does the same for readied actions. Looks better than mine, honestly. Having no limit means not worrying if you can "reach" that initiative or not, which is much better if you dont like memorizing initiative numbers.

Oh well back to the drawing board. I'll try to come up with something actually original next time. :)

Be careful though when you allow such stuff and take care to include rules what happens when two persons use these feats against each other.

I'll try to do the same with the Kalamar feats.
