D&D 5E Tall's PotA Campaign - IC

"Got no choice, maybe we could try bluffing them as we get close, say that Hellenrae is dead? Might demoralise them at least!"

Ilvellios is injured and unfocused, but also relieved that the prisoners have finally been found and are nearly safe..

Day 7/Night
Round 0

OOC: Errol is down 7 points. Everyone else was hurt worse than him, though, I think.

Errol nodded to Illvelious and reached into the pouch at his belt. He pulled out his one healing potion and tossed it to the monk.

“I would prefer surprise, take down as many as I can from long range, maybe draw them out of their fortification, make them come to us on less defensible ground. But let’s see what kind of set up they have. Luckily we’re on their wrong side, so they might not be expecting attack from this end of the ravine.”

"Thanks Errol, but I have three of my own, " he smiled at the warrior and passed it back.

OOC:
Currently at 25/39hp. Any healing spells would be appreciated, but may be better off on someone else, we'll see how this roll goes.

Using one of his own healing potions:

OOC: 30/39 seems OK I'll try hold onto my few slots at work so can't confirm but I think I'm down to 2 1st level slots and I can cast entanglement which is good to entanglement good for running away

Sacred Stone Monastery, Day 8, Very early morning

Duran tries to grab the items from the hollow in the pedestal but his great paws are too clumsy to pick up the two delicate rings. Errol steps up and pockets the rings before fleeing the garden. The escaped prisoners are quick to follow you towards the entrance to the canyon. Your relief at not running into the patrol turns sour when you realise that they are still at the camp. Three Duargar sit around the makeshift table playing some kind of game. Two more are readying weapons, presumably about to go out on patrol. You can't see the sixth, but you can guess he's farther down the gully at the sentry post.

GM: Don't forget about JV. He's only got 12 HP.

So far you have the drop on the sentries, you can start anywhere over 120 feet from them, if you want to get closer you'll need stealth rolls.

One of the rings is a Ring of Fire Resistance
The other is a Silver Ruby Ring with a value of 600GP
The sword is Reszor
Rapier (uncommon), requires attunement
Reszor was commissioned by a soldier turned assassin to enhance his ability to kill without being detected. It has a star motif etched into the blade and the handle is of blue leather. Dried blood clings to the blade and cannot be cleaned off.

The weapon counts as magical and when you make an attack against on opponent while hidden the attack will make no noise. Additionally, when you make an attack with this weapon and get to use bonus damage dice, such as superiority dice or sneak attack dice, roll an additional die and discard the lowest. When you say the command word "Reszor" the blade will glow with dim light out to a 5ft radius, saying the command word again will turn the light off. Finally there is a mild curse on the blade that drives the wielder to kill. After rendering an opponent incapacitated or unconscious make a DC7 WIS saving throw to stop yourself from killing the creature.

Ilvillious 25/39
Nariah 23+6/23 Concentration
Duran 23/23 Bear Form 12+8/34
Erol 29/36
J.V. 12/27 +d4 leadership from Sir Jondal

Sir Jondal 44/52 1 level of exhaustion
Bruldenthar 9/9 1 level of exhaustion
14 Commoners 1 level of exhaustion

Ok, Ilvellios will try to sneak up on the patrol. He doesn't want to fight them all in his own though, so he will let the ranged attackers soften them up for a round or two before revealing his presence..

OOC: When did we get the magic sword? I must have missed that. Would have come in handy with those gargoyles!

“Fair enough,” Errol said, taking back his healing potion. “JV, you look like you could use this.” He handed the potion to the other man.

As they approached the sentry post, it became clear luck wasn’t with them. “Okay, get under cover in those rocks,” Errol told the prisoners they had just rescued. Then he switched out his crossbow for his longbow for the greater range before taking cover behind a rock himself.

If the duergar noticed them, or as soon as Ilvellious was in position, Errol shot an arrow at the nearest armed duergar.

Move: 120’ from duergar
Action: Longbow attack and damage: 1D20+6 = [17]+6 = 23
1D8+4 = [8]+4 = 12

Possibly advantage because they don’t know we’re there
Longbow attack advantage: 1D20+6 = [14]+6 = 20

OOC: Sorry my computer crashed mid post and I clearly didn't rewrite everything properly. The sword is the source of the glow you saw in the pedistal, so you picked it up with the rings.
