D&D 5E (2014) Tall's PotA Campaign - IC

Sighing Valley
Day 4, Early Afternoon

There is a confused pause before the sentry remarks, “On yer own? Ne’er mind, dose fops wouldn’t know a fight if it kicked ‘er arse. Who ya ‘ere ta see?”

GM: Errol and Duran both spot the sentry sitting behind a bush 20 yards ahead. Duran also spots three more men, taking up concealed positions at the camp ahead.

I took the liberty of rolling Errol’s deception roll to move things along a bit.
Errols deception roll: 2D20.HIGH(1)+4 = [9, 6]+4 = 13

Sighing Valley
Day 4, Early Afternoon

At Thateous’s words the bush rustles and a man in loose fitting clothes stands up. His arms folded in front of him he appears somewhat angry with your response. “It’s the kind of question you had better answer, unless you want trouble.” His working man’s accent gone, replaced with the aloof tones of a man born to privilege. “And might I suggest you learn your place before someone puts you there.”

Gully in the Sighing Valley
Day 4/Early morning
Round 0

“My apologies, good man,” Errol said. “When we expressed interest, Lord Thule told us to come here and ask for Aerisiel,” the archer said. “We were not given any special instructions concerning proper protocol. We would be most grateful if you could aid us, then, as far as that is concerned.”

Temple of Howling Hatred
Day 4, Early Afternoon

The man visibly calms at Errol’s words, his arms drop to his sides and says to the group, “That’s better. You,” he points to Thateuos, “can learn a thing or two from this man. Follow this trail and you’ll come to a camp. Speak to Gillaum and he’ll take you to see Windharrow. Any sass with him and that’ll be the end of it.”

The party follows a narrow trail in the underbrush, it’s well hidden but easy to follow once you are on it, that leads to the camp. There you are greeted with the same aloof arrogance but Gillaum heads off down another path with little more than a gesture.

Your escort leads the way along a hidden path to a cave mouth in the side of the gulley. He is sullen and quiet and won’t entertain much conversation, reluctantly giving his name as Gillaum.

The cave opens into a huge underground chasm that splits the earth as far as the eye can see in the pervasive subterranean darkness. A crude, narrow stairway hugs the rock alongside the chasm, twisting madly in hairpin turns around sharp outcroppings, jagged and uneven. The stair threatens to spill you into the chasm's mouth. After several treacherous miles, the stairway terminates on a broad, flat landing that juts out over the immense black chasm.

In the gloom, a lost dwarven city lays in ruins beneath the glittering cavern vault. Broken statues stand in the midst of empty plazas, staring sightlessly into the darkness. A huge step pyramid rises at the edge of the precipice, and from the moat that surrounds it a misty waterfall whispers over the chasm's ledge.

GM: You have some time to act here en route if you want to do anything other than continue with the “We’re here to join up” role. If no one says otherwise, I’ll move along to the next bit assuming you are happy, if you choose to do anything let me know and I’ll edit the post.

OOC: @Thateous, just so you don't feel cheated with that persuasion roll, they needed the name drop to not attack, so your roll kept that at bay for a while at least.
