Dessarin/Riverguard Keep
Day 5/Midday
Round 0

“Ugh…” Errol struggled his way out of the ungainly pile of the woman, his clothing soaked by the watery snake, as he felt her magic fade from him.

“Well, that was unexpected,” he said with a frown, retrieving his manacles. He hadn’t expected her to be able to shapeshift out of them. And what had set her off? She had been cooperative.

“Check if anyone heard us,” Errol told J.V. as he sheathed his rapier again.

At Errol's words, Ilvellios cautiously moved to the door, leaving room for J.V., and listened for any sound that the conflict might have attracted attention.

If clear, he will open the door and check down the hallway in both directions.

Riverguard Keep,
Early Evening, Day 5

Illvilious listens at the door, the noise from the large hall at the end of the corridor continue but he can't hear anything else. As he opens the door to the library there is a man in the doorway opposite looking directly at him. The man is shirtless and unarmed and looks at Illvilious with an expression mixing humour and relief.

Ilvellios was a little perturbed at the way the man was looking at him, but retained his presence of mind to use his body to stop the man from seeing into the room, quickly stepping into the hallway and closing the door.

He briefly debated challenging the man, then decided the best thing would be to behave as inconspicuously as possible, avoiding eye contact and moving towards the balcony overlooking the hall, while hoping the man would not start a conversation.

OOC:
If the man goes back in his room, Ivellios will observe the hall for a few minutes before sneaking back and opening the door to let the others know the way is clear.

Riverguard Keep,
Early Evening, Day 5

The man's eyes follow illvilious for a few seconds, then he closes his door with a chuckle. A muffled comment and a burst of laughter drift through the door behind him.

Looking down into the hall you can see three long tables with benches running the length of the hall. There are perhaps half a dozen men, eating and drinking, being served by two women. One of the men you recognise as Shoalar, slumped on his own with a pot of ale in his hand. He appears to be the but of many a joke, though is clearly too drunk to really care.

There are two men, clearly guards, one standing in the middle of the north wall and one in the middle of the south. People's attention occasionally is directed at someone under the balcony below you, but you dare not lean out to look, believing you'll draw attention.

On the balcony, to your left, in the north west corner is a ladder leading to a trapdoor in the ceiling. There is also a staircase leading to the ground floor from both the northwest and southwest corners of the balcony.

Ilvellios quietly moved back to Ushnora's room and filled the others in on what he'd seen. "Up through the trap door?"

OOC:

I'm thinking the guy who gets their attention is the leader, and we probably want to avoid a big fight, since I don't think we have anyone with a fireball?

"The trap door it is. Hey sorry about the thing with the woman. I should of..." J.V. starts to say somthing, but continues with, "I should have seen that coming sooner. My apologies. Let's proceed." he says genuinely.

GM: I use the word "ladder", but its more like a ship's ladder, so a little bit like a really steep staircase. So I'll allow the bear to get up with an athletics check. A bigger concern would be that the stairs, and most of the balcony, are in view of the diners below, a few people climbing up would probably not arouse suspicion, but a bear...

The stairs down to the ground floor are much more gradual in their descent.
