Telekinesis:Violent thrust to the roof or off a cliff? Does being "hurled" draw AoOs?

But does the RAW explicitly call out the two types of movement you are claiming?

Externally caused vs. Chosen?

I don't find such a distinction.

Does not exisst.

Besides, it actually makes sense to provoke. You are hardly defending your self normally as you whiz by, are you?

It actually makes more sense that you do not provoke as you whiz by (e.g. Repelling Blast).

In fact, the entire concept of AoOs does not make a lot of sense. It is merely a game balance mechanic in a circular "have to wait for your turn" initiative system to prevent enemies from moving past the front line combatants and engaging the rear line creatures without the front line ones getting some sort of response in first. For example, the Assassins rushing past the King's Guards and attacking the King unopposed. If one Assassin were to be quickly hurled past the Guards, it does not make much sense that every single Guard nearby would be able to react quickly enough to attack him as he shoots by.

There isn't one to my knowledge, but you haven't addressed the Flying creatures above a quickly turning Ship example.

Depends if movement is being used as a game term or not. TK and other "movement" forcing abilties like awsome blow have plenty of potency without this...
BTW, frankthedm, your diagrams kick serious amounts of butt. I'm having difficulty arguing with you because I'm entranced by them. (Pretty colors!) What do you use?

This ruling would mean that if you were an assassin, it would pay to have someone throw you past the guards.....no AoOs, after all!

There are Teleportation type spells that already could do that. Having a TK type spell whip an Assassin past the Guards where he takes damage before confronting the King hardly seems a great gain over other spells (e.g. Invisibility).

Yes it would, and I concur... unless the guards had readied to attack something that came their way, which they probably didn't. It's not necessary to have a counter point to everything your party wants to do. If they think throwing the assassin past the guards is a great idea, it doesn't require some stretch of the rules to convince them its not a good idea. Let him past, per the rules. Then kill him.
