Tell me if this race is slightly overpowered.

Just randomly skimming through my Monster Manual yesterday and i look at the rakshasas. It seems to me that someone might have made a slip when working with that. What could you possibly be thinking to give something dr and crazy spell resistance while it still counts as progressing through the sorcerer class. There is effectively no drawback to this race as long as you intend it to be a sorcerer. I am currently rolling a 10th lvl rakshasas 3rd lvl sorcerer with the amount of money that it recommends from the DMG and it already has

HP 147 SR 30 DR 15/Good + Piercing

16 Str Items
20 Dex - Cloak of Charisma +4
28 Con - Cloak of Resistance +4 (DM doesn't mind for multiple cloaks.)
18 Int - Amulet of Health +4
18 Wis - Bracers of Armor +1
30 Cha

Does this seem a little overpowered for a 10th lvl character. Also he allows us to roll stats and this set was extremely overbearing because of the fact we can reroll 1's and 2's.

There's no mistake and it's not overpowered. You don't seem aware of Level Adjustment (LA) and Equivalent Character Levels (ECL).

In short, races which are more powerful than the core PHB races have a LA which tells you how much more powerful they are. You add the LA to their class levels, and that gives you the ECL, which is their equivalency to a core PHB race. So a race with +3 LA and 4 class levels is considered a 7th lvl PC. If the race has racial HD, that is added to the total to get the ECL.

A rakshasa has 7 HD and +7 LA. So a rakshasa 3rd lvl sorcerer is equivalent to a 17th lvl PC (7 + 7 + 3 = 17). While your character has amazing stats and defensive powers, compare it to a 17th lvl wizard, who can cast 9th lvl spells, or a 17th lvl sorcerer, who can cast 7th lvl spells.

So what you are saying is a rakshasa can't be run in any campaign less than 15th lvl. That makes a lot of sense.

That also explains a problem we had with one of my characters before. We did a 10th lvl campaign and didn't know how to do the lvl adjustment so I was a stone giant barbarian frenzied berserker and we were confused a lot. We almost dropped asmodius. (Sorry for spelling that wrong.........again) The DM was really confused and just couldn't stop laughing
