Ten Reasons you will love Dragonspawn

I can see why people are upset though. If they had shown up in Draconomicon or Races of the Dragon, no one would have blinked. But in MM IV? It's sort of overkill, especially since the two books I mentioned aren't -that- old.

MM3 also set the bar fairly high, IMO. Goofy monsters are easier to tuck in the back of a book like the Draconomicon or RotD, just because they're not the meat-and-potatoes, as opposed to a Monster Manual.

But dragonspawn carry with them none of the coolness of dragons. Where is the inhuman-ness? Where's the breath weapon? Where are the spells? Where are the wings? Where is the breath-taking enormity? Where is the near godly might?

White dragon wyrmling, size tiny, CR 2, no spells through age category Young Adult. :)

Well my point wasn't really about them being goofy as being so heavily thematic.

If you buy Draconomicon or RotD, chances are that you are looking to feature dragons rather heavily in your campaign. MM IV? Not necessarly. Yet, you're stuck with a serious percentage of monster that are heavily tied to dragons (sure, they -could- be weird lizardman, but.. Still). It'd be like having that many demons in a book. Excellent if your campaign uses demons, annoying if it doesn't.

Klaus... damn. Fifteen minute sketch it might be, but it's really sweet nonetheless. Like Kunimatyu, I prefer the hunched ferality of the MMIV version, but the arms and armor, the dead celestial, and the cocky grin on the slayer's face all make up for it in spades. There is a monster with personality.

Bonus points for making the skull a brass dragon's.

Demiurge out.

Thanks! :)

Bonus points to the first to tell me what are the thingies coming out of their shoulderblades.

As for hunched, I'd hunch it more if it were in an attack position. But planning a picture for an MM entry (write your WotC congressman!), it'd be best to keep it more vertical. Check out the upcoming Ptolus Counter Collection for a reeeally hunched beast, the annihilator.

I do so love a challenge.

Mind you, this is merely a 15-minute sketch.

So, I talked the talk. Did I walk the walk? ;)

Jolly Good! I like it. Any chance of getting it colored and finished up?

The equivalent creatures serving Bahamut's aims are the dragonborn of Bahamut from Races of the Dragon, who voluntarily undergo a magical transformation into the dragonborn race. Indeed, somewhere I have a quote concerning the dragonborn and how their big foes would be introduced later in 2006 . . . which we can see are the spawn of Tiamat from The Red Hand of Doom and Monster Manual IV.

There is also the fell drakes ... originally from the new chainmail game, and iirc they were created by Bahamut to help the elves (and their alignments are good).

Klaus: I like your picture better than the WotC piece
