D&D 4E The 4e Mystery Race is going to be...

I'd prefer full-blood Orcs to Half-Orcs. <snip>

So would I.

well... let's just say that I've never heard of a Half-Orc born of a happy marriage.

You must not play in Eberron, where half-orcs are valued members of House Tharashk and are typically the result of a voluntary marriage between human and orc. Half-orcs have their own name (which escapes me at the moment) meaning "people of two bloods". I think it's a really cool contrast to the sterotypical half-orc, but YMMV.

Something non-iconic to D&D. I'm not saying it won't be an idea never touched on before, but I doubt it will be as classic as kobold or mindflayer. Maybe the new Changeling from Eberron? Something tells me it will fit a role not filled by other races in the game, but central to 4e.

My guess is either Drow (there being a drow in the upcoming mini starter set) or some type of draconic race (the guy on the PHB could be interpreted to be draconic rather than fiendish).

I think the new PC race is probably something reptilian, either lizardmen or some kind of dragon spawn. Reptilian humanoids are such as strong and recurrent theme in both world folklore and sword & sorcery fiction that I'm surprised no previous edition of D&D ever had them as a possibility for PCs. There's currently something of a resurgence of interest in reptilian humanoid folklore due to the strange conspiracy theory that claims that all our leaders are actually shape-changing reptilians. I'm not making this up; a frighteningly large number of people actually believe this. Shape changing reptilian sorcerers were particularly important in Howard's Kull and Conan stories, of course.

I'm betting on something dragon-related. Races of the Dragon and Dragon Magic show that Wizards thinks the players want dragon related stuff. A playable dragonspawn race would both be distinctly new (to showcase the new edition) and have a built-in fan base.

Uh . . . okay, sure.

I'd be thrilled if the mystery race was minotaurs. I think it'd be great to have a large, monstrous race playable in the core.

I'd settle for orcs, but man, I'd really like to see minotaurs.

He's correct in that there is such a conspiracy theory. It's, ahem, silly at best, but it exists.

I do have to say I very much enjoyed playing my half-dragon anthropomorphic tyrannosaur. I don't know if that makes me a Reptoid, though. :)

You got me :)

No, I've never had the opportunity to play Eberron, as my group has a large percentage of big time Realms fans in it...

Now that you mention it, though, it's an interesting, albeit icky, concept (j/k)
