Or half-ogres, perhaps.

Orc or goblin are strong possibilities.

I don't think it will be a half- race or a traditional foe from the MM (orc, goblin, hobgoblin, lizardfolk).

Goliath can fill the half-orcs strong niche, isn't a halfbreed, has a pseudo mythical name, and is new enough no one would suspect it.

Unless of course, its a PC OOZE!!!

Full-blooded orcs is the obvious choice when you base the choice on previous iterations of D&D, but if they're going all the way for some new stuff, another "brutish" race would do perfectly well.

I personally hope it's Minotaur or Ogre. That'd be really cool, for a change.

It's gnomes. They're just trying to keep it all under wraps till the Races and Classes book. The negative connotations the race is associated with mentioned earlier are due to the eyebrow-raising change to the mystery race (which is gnome) that one of the designers mentioned in his blog.

The gnomes have gone from large-nosed comic relief characters of 2e to big-eyed tinker-bards with vaguely fey-like spell-like abilities of 3(.5)e to fierce earth-based fey warrior-miners of 4e (hence the fierce ranger reference).

Come on, folks, it's obvious!

One brand new class, one brand new race? My money is on something not previously seen in any edition.

I'm more than willing to agree with this one. I mean it only makes sence they wouldn't tell us this race because they haven't given it a name yet.

Or because, as they have already stated, they don't want to spill all of the beans just yet.

I'm betting it will be Orc or something Draconic. That's the most likely choice.

What I would Prefer? Kobolds, Lizardfolk, Kenku, or Undead.

Hobgoblin would make me go 'hmm'.
