Not offensive unto me. I do wish it were a different picture for the cover of the single most important book in the new edition, though; I agree this is probably WAR's weakest piece.

I like WAR's art normally, but the PHB cover is a miss for me. The figures are posed strangely, the outfits are silly looking, the male tiefling design (okay, not WAR's fault) is weak, the "narrative" of the cover is vague and uninspired, and (again, probably not WAR's fault) the colors are muddy.

At least you can eat a cheesecake. The PHB cover is just useless.

I'd hate that on a PHB.

But man, something looks wrong with that foot, it's twisted and bloated and discolored an-- oh, zombie. Necrotizing flesh hides a multitude of sins; I stand by my previous assertion ;)

Wait. Exposed + ugly => inoffensive, but exposed + pretty => offensive? If we subtract "exposed" from both sides, we get that pretty => offensive.

We've gotten rather far from when "arate" could mean loveliness, haven't we?

I think it's more exposed + ugly => not designed to titillate, but exposed + pretty => designed to titillate. It's whether or not your game books should be designed to get your baby-making motors running, not whether beauty is offensive.

They really need to consider a more... "high fantasy" cover.

Something outdoors and awesome and classy, rather than going directly for GRAR WE SMASH.

As for the cheesecake, a little is fine. People like the idea of being attractive, generally. Just needs to be more setting appropriate... cleavage shots are for taverns and travel, not dungeon delves.

I agree with a lot of other people. This cover is really tame, and really bad. I strongly prefer the 3e style of cover for the PHB, DMG, and MM at least.

I don't think anyone from Europe would have a problem with the cover, which IMO is tame.

It is however IMO the weakest of the three core book covers.

My problem isn't with cheesecake/lack of cheesecake. I just don't like the cover. I prefer the art we've seen that is supposedly slated for the DM screen (the green dragon one).
